Back Where We Started

Today promised to be an unseasonably warm day, so at 7am I lurched out for another century ride. At that time, it was only 50° out, but by the time I returned, my cyclocomputer had registered 90°.

It was my ninth century of 2014, which sets a new personal record, surpassing the eight I did back in 2010. It also puts me over 3,000 miles for 2014, which is also the most I’ve ridden since 2010.

I took the same route as my first century of the year: to Beverly via Middleton, up the coast and around Cape Ann on 127, then back via Essex, Salem, and Wakefield. A big, long 115 miles.

Despite some health issues I’m struggling with, I felt reasonably good, such that I only took two rest stops: in Rockport and Salem. And I set no less than 24 new PRs!

In all likelihood, this will be my last century of the year. Depending on how things go, it could also be my last century in Boston. So I tried to devote a little extra attention to enjoying the beautiful scenery around Cape Ann. There was some autumnal color, but not very much.

So that should pretty much put a bow on the major events of this year’s cycling season.
