Now that
Garmin Connect
finally accepts
GPX-format
data exported from handheld GPS’, I can share maps of some of
the routes I have ridden or paddled.
If you’re connected to me via F*c*book, this isn’t news to you, as I
crossposted several GPS logs this spring. However, going forward, I’m
only going to crosspost major or noteworthy activities to F*c*book. Rest
assured that you can find all my rides and paddles on
My Garmin Connect
Page.
So far this year I’ve logged the
CRW Spring Century, my riding the
Boston Marathon route, many other training rides, as well as my
first
and
second kayaking expeditions.
Some memorable events from 2009 include Pan-Mass Challenge
Day 1 and
Day
2, my
biplane flight at
Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, and a
kayaking
expedition with my brother in Victoria BC.
BONUS FACTOID: GPS satellites have proven Einstein’s Theory of Special
Relativity! Since they orbit at a nontrivial percentage of the speed of
light, time as measured by the atomic clocks onboard GPS satellites
actually runs slower than time measured by terrestrial atomic clocks.
While the difference is very small, it is significant enough that
engineers had to introduce a fudge factor to keep the clocks in synch
and avoid a perceived drift in GPS positioning of 10 km per day!
