[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]

Name: Dr. Jonathan Crane
Age: 33
Gender: Male
Fandom: The Dark Knight trilogy (aka Nolanverse)
Timeline: After his arrest in the prologue of The Dark Knight.
History: Pre-movie history under "Origin", Nolanverse history from then on.

Character Personality:
Crane’s defining quality is his morbid obsession with the nature of fear. Clearly stemming from childhood and adolescent experiences -- being terrorised by bullies and subsequently discovering the joys of terrorising said bullies in return -- it’s something that he’s stewed over his entire life. This leads to his decision to study psychology and pursue it as a career, and eventually culminates in his twisted experiments on his own patients. It takes more than a simple passing interest in fear to gas people with psychoactive drugs and domineer them in a burlap mask with a hangman’s noose still dangling off. Under the poorly-stitched sack -- as The Scarecrow -- Crane is sadistic, sarcastic, and aggressive. He’ll often play control games, toying with his drugged foes while they’re unable to fight back.
As Dr. Jonathan Crane, however, he is a generally polite (if somewhat arrogant) soft-spoken man. Despite this, one can’t help but feel just a little uneasy around him. Those that know him in the context of his world have a clearer view at the corrupt doctor who frequently deals with mob bosses and terrorists within Gotham, getting thugs free tickets out of jail via the insanity plea. Indeed, ever since his first large exposure to his own fear gas (and the surely traumatic episode with Batman that followed right after) he's been acting a little unhinged: strange remarks, mumbling to himself, a more vicious and forward interest in his experiments now that he's been found out. What's possibly more unnerving is that he can still put on the gently smiling mask of the polite Dr. Jonathan Crane when the situation calls for it.
Dealing with the underworld is just to satisfy Crane’s primary objective: to continue his research. The doctor is always looking for new test subjects, people willing (or mostly unwilling) to try a dose of an improved fear serum. Money funds his experiments and his bribes in turn. Everything he does is done to further his studies.

Character Abilities:
An expert in the field of psychology, having taught as a professor for a number of years before taking up residence at Arkham Asylum. By now I don’t even need to mention he specialises in fear. A skilled psychopharmacologist.
Crane’s crowning achievement is his development of his “fear toxin.” It’s a powerful hallucinogenic that creates disturbing images in the mind of the afflicted, of things or memories of what they fear most. It can also warp the world around them, making a dog with a waggy tail look like a hellhound, or a stupid-looking burlap sack mask look like it's bleeding maggots and breathing fire. In normal doses it’s enough to disorient and incapacitate a man. In concentrated doses, it can break the mind permanently. As The Scarecrow, he normally utilises his toxin in an aerosol form, out of a secret compartment in his briefcase or a gas dispenser hidden in his right coat sleeve, though it’s possible that the toxin can be injected or ingested as well.
Crane is also pretty much immune to fear at this point.

Character Weaknesses:
Without his fear toxin, Crane is pretty powerless. His thin, lanky frame isn’t really cut out for close combat fighting. Case in point: he tries to get in a sucker punch on Batman but his arm is promptly grabbed, twisted, and he drops like a sack. Then Batman owns him in the face with his own fear gas before grumbling at him and tossing him into a wall.
Needless to say, the doctor prefers to let muscle do the muscle work. He'll only strike when the situation is in his favour.
Additionally, Crane is at least partly susceptible to his own fear toxin if he doesn't have his combination scary-burlap-sack-mask-and-rebreather. Thing is, he's had a number of accidental exposures that have both a) conditioned him to the effects and b) made him slightly nuts. Anyway, it's simply a matter of yanking the mask off his pretty head, if you can get close enough to him to do that. What he sees when under the effects of his fear gas?
The Batman, of course.

[ WEAPON SECTION ]

Why your character should be a Weapon:
Probably because Crane would be so, so useless as a Meister, it wouldn't even be funny. I'd be surprised if he could even swing a sword. But being a weapon -- just being an extension of what he already is, what he already has in his fear gas and syringes...Now that would be much more useful to him. Oh, and others I guess.
Also the chance to have roles reversed -- being used instead of controlling others -- is some sort of poetic justice, if Death City has any.

What is your character's Weapon form?:
I've chosen the form of this...Thing, from the Arkham Asylum game version of The Scarecrow: a Freddy Krueger-esque glove with needles where blades would be, stocked with an endless supply of his own brand fear toxin. In addition to the syringes, the same aerosol canister that Crane himself uses can dispense the toxin in a gas cloud form.
It is not a cutting weapon, you can't cut people with needles. It's not a blunt weapon either, since you can't punch people with needles (but being punched by someone with this thing on would probably still hurt.) His beauty lies in incapacitating people and letting others finish them off...Or you know, letting them live long enough for the doctor to observe his effects.
With this as his weapon form, Crane is able to change only a finger into a syringe if he so desires. He doesn't need to manufacture his own toxin anymore, since his status as a weapon pretty much takes care of it for him. If he wanted to change the composition of the toxin, however (make it more potent, different effects, etc.) then that would require him to actually synthesise the chemical himself before being able to utilise it as normal.

Soul Description:
Intelligent, sadistic, arrogant, cruel, calculating, insane.

Soul Appearance:
A small, brownish sphere with what looks like a wide brimmed hat. Its face is kind of scary. Hey...It looks a little like a scarecrow! Haha, imagine that.

like a year later, it occurs to me that a lot of this info is essentially out of date. :Ia take it with a grain of salt, any future stumbling-uponers!
