Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
tall and skinny. leggy. resembles both his animal and literary namesake.
2. How old is he?
thirty three, yo.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
quite well. he had a proper upbringing under that granny of his, after all. slouching was frowned upon in the eyes of the lord. and frowning led to condeming to hell for all eternity.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
he’s healthy enough, but don’t expect him to go running any marathons anytime soon. or lifting any weights. he can take exactly one punch. maybe if he didn’t smoke so much...
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
“controlled” is the best word to describe him. movements are deliberate, precise and deadly. he wastes no energy. this isn’t alway the case, especially when he’s toked up on fear toxin or his own crazy, but he is generally very in control of his own movements.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
well i think he’s attractive.
if we are going with the cillian murphy standard i’ve set here, then yes, he is quite attractive. if you’re into very delicate, feminine-looking guys i guess. he isn’t really one to admire himself in the mirror every morning, but looking clean and polished is just part of his attempt to look reputable for the public. so in that regard, dressing sharply and wearing snazzy glasses is part of his concern, yes.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
quite fair. probably part of that irish blood (not just because he’s cillian murphy. i’m referring to jon’s family too huurgh.)
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
short, brown, wavy, well-groomed. it kind of looks shiny in some shots. i’m not sure if it’s oily or shit because he’s just lying around and huffing toxin all day or something, or if it’s some sort of product. if it’s anything like the hair product i use, then his hair probably smells like coconut.
9. What color are his eyes?
gawgeous light blue. 10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
those fucking lips
11. What are his chief tension centers?
uh
well. maybe his neck and back. i’ve noticed that those of the scientific persuasion tend to ache in those areas because they hunch over books like big neeeerds. also batman’s had him by the neck a few times so i wouldn’t blame it for being a sensitive spot after a while.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
quite dressy for work. earthy tones. greys, dark reds, greens. nothing particularly flashy, he’s not trying to stand out.
i find it really hard to imagine him in casual clothing, but i don’t think a t-shirt and nice pants are out of the question.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
yes. and yes.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
uhh, refer somewhat to question 12. i sort of see him wearing his shirt and sweater vest (goddamn professors) dealio all the time since it’s what he’s got on under that jacket. but i could see him in less-dressy clothing too.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
boxers. with little bats on them.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
like his movements, his voice is controlled. it’s smooth, without any changes in pitch. bordering a monotone.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
quite softly. his speech is often marked by these almost forced-sounding pauses as if he’s processing what you just said (maybe reflecting on how much of a dimwit you are) and formulating an answer.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
it’s cillian murphy pretending to have an american accent.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
just english. might know a little bit of french and a respectable amount of latin just because he’s a great big neeeeerd.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
he’s not that big a nerd.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
i think that when he has to speak impromptu, he does know exactly what he’s going to say. he is a very quick thinker. those fake pauses-for-effect are what might give the impression of hesitation.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
eloquent when he’s lucid.
inarticulate when he’s not.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
very smart. it’s his main asset. apart from vast stores of knowledge regarding chemistry, psychology, the brain, and many other scholarly topics, he’s also a veteran of the underworld. he knows how to navigate the criminal circuits. now, if he’s always coherent enough to act according to his knowledge is another matter...
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
his best work is done with time for deliberation, but he can be quite inventive when the situation calls for it.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
logical. coldly logical.
in his rarer moments of incoherent thought, his reasoning may lean more towards his baser tendencies: i.e. as the scarecrow, he’s more concerned about getting pleasure from people tripping balls on fear toxin. so he may be more willing to act on those desires than realise that “hey, maybe flinging scarydust in batman’s face isn’t a good idea when it probably won’t work and he already wants to break your kneecaps.”
4. What kind of education has the character had?
college, graduate, phd, medical resident.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
fear. phobias. psychology. conditioning. chemistry. bongs.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
generally an introvert. he acts a bit spicier when in costume.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
ha haaaa. this is a bit of a loaded question. if you consider the scarecrow a kind of “mood,” then yes. he totally swings (context is everything in that sentence, by the way.)
otherwise, his emotions are quite bland. when he’s in control of them, he puts up a pretty mean poker face anyway.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
wary. suspicious. bordering paranoid. not that he shows it. to strangers, he’s just gonna look like a charming-enough professional.
he’s generally going to try and get to know a person by stealthily analysing them. you know those conversations.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
you could argue it’s in the nature of a scientist to act and observe reactions. so i’m going to go with that. also it gives him a better shot at not getting his face beat in before he can spray his opponent with pimp dust.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
if the situation isn’t quite clearly in his favour, always flight.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
rather dark, as you could probably imagine. he rather appreciates ironic humour. if the pun is good, then he could probably get in on that too (at least for the wordplay.)
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
huurf. i’m hesitant to fling around “disassociative identity disorders” and “schizophrenias” just because it’s hard to fully understand those diagnoses. bottom line is, his personality does shift noticably when he’s under the mask. he is a canonical example of a mad scientist, so there may be a bit of megalomania in there (read: “god of fear.”) he regards himself higher than the other costumed wackos (and the doctors, as a matter ‘o’ fact) out there, so it’s safe to say that he doesn’t acknowledge his own issues. self-diagnosis is a joke anyway.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
being bullied as a child for one.
his grandmother being a gigantic asshole for two.
finding out how it was that his grandmother manipulated him all those years for three.
getting kicked out of a professional establishment for four.
meeting batman for five.
14. What does he fear?
ha ha ha.
batman.
and maybe birds.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
to catch all 151 pokemon, if by “catch” you mean “gas” and by “all 151 pokemon” you mean “everyone.”
and screw you, there are only 151 REAL pokemon.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
as far as
soul_campaign is concerned, he’s keeping his straw-filled self under wraps. he doesn’t want to be outed juuuust quite yet, not when he’s still preparing for his experiments.
otherwise he’s already a wanted criminal, there’s nothing much else that people can get on him. but he’d rather not know just how fragile he is behind all the fearmongering he does.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
mom died, dad abandoned them, so he was raised by his tyrannical grandmother who had him in a constant state of terror for much of his young life.
until he murdered her.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
uhh. if i go the whole hog with the comic backstory to fill in nolanverse, then he’s probably got multiple half-siblings. since his mother really got around.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
nope.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
nope. he is a solitary soul.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
um.
6. Does he have other close friends?
er.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
cough.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
ha ha ha...
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
single.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
this is getting kind of sad...
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
first crush was that girl who rejected him. before he murdered the jock she was with.
latest?
batman
harley quinn
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
their butt must look good in black kevlar or spandex.
...a good mind?
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
no no and no.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
hurrrf batman. the only person he knows who manipulates fear as well as he does. he probably isn’t particularly fond of the joker just because that clown operates on chaos so much. it’s not conducive to crane’s more logical thought processes.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the
Kinsey scale?
umm. i’ll admit i’m not the best with the whole sexual orientation thing becaue it’s so unimportant to me. but i’d either go with asexual (X) or het/incidentally homo (1). because it’s really really hard to deny the homoerotic tension between batman and every male villain.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
i imagine he sees it as either a) procreation or b) a power struggle. he’s more interested in the motives and minds behind the act rather than the bodily fluids and tongue jousting.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
“would you mind if i did it with the mask on”
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
no official birthdate, so if we go with cillian murphy’s…
he is a gemini. which means that he is extremely independent, flighty, quick, clever, adaptable, devious, and good with words. they need to “leave their mark” on everything.
it’s somewhat accurate.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
he leans towards the atheistic side of things. he can’t have grown up the way he did without losing all faith in a kind god. as time goes on he may fancy himself a god (of fear) himself, but he hasn’t reached that point as i’ve played him.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
noooot really. men, women, adults, children -- they’re all fair game for his studies. he is primarily concerned with him. and him only.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
he acknowledges them. indifferent is probably the best word. he’s not interested in the beliefs as much as why they believe what they do.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
everyone is afraid of something. this is a very rational belief.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
he dresses quite well, so he’s probably rather comfortable. as head of arkham, he must have been paid rather nicely. in the criminal world, he sells lots of shiny drugs.
this is nolanverse, of course. comics crane is poor and decidedly so.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
he went from generally well-respected doctor (if you ignored the rumours) to supervillain wack-job. he’s not too miffed with the change, though it kind of makes his job a bit more of a hassle.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
idefk he probably lives in a cave or something. umm, warehouses, shady apartments, anything is fair game.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
BOOKS AND CHEMICALS
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
he scares people, is very good at it, and loves what he does.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
drugs
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
he’d totally accidentally skip like a whole day of meals just because he was busy working, and not even notice.
