....oh my gosh. Every year for about 4 years now my friends and I go to this park in the spring, and it is always filled with those black birds with the red eyes/white beaks/crazy feet, and we have never been able to figure out what they are before. You have solved the mystery! :O

I like to think they are the unevolved form of loons.

Our theory up until now was that they were loons! Ornithology sites were so not helpful in our quest for an answer. :/

I also thought that maybe they had like, been in this tiny park ecosystem for so long that they had evolved their own new species of bird hitherto unrecorded by science! And that's why we couldn't find them. :D I've got to remember coots for next spring.
