Also, I recently had the opportunity to rent 2 movies:
NINE:
Unfortunately, my theory that when you have a big cast of very well known actors that only means the movie isn't that good, was true once again.
This theory isn't always true, but has been true more times then not.
Whilst I was IMPRESSED with how good the actors were individually, but I already knew that.
I.E. loved the song by Kate Hudson, loved Daniel Day Lewis for his voice and chameleon like abilities, loved how Dirty Sexy, Penélope Cruz is and she also sang well.
Even Dame Judy Dench sings,...maybe that is what it's about, seeing all these actors out of their element...10 for effort, certainly much better vocally than Mama Mia. Fergie was also excellent. Oh and lest I forget, Sophia Lauren, lost but not forgotten...she was there, she was impressive.
The movie it self, the story line...basically boring and not interesting and I just didn't get it. so, Nine gets a 4 from me but a 10 for effort and cast.
Sherlock Holmes:
The one with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, turns out it's a Guy Ritchie movie, and that explained some of the scenes. Their are a few scenes in the movie which have the Guy Ritchie (Ex Mr. Madonna) signature and that is fine...if you have seen Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels you will recognize them (the signature scenes) for sure.
I guess it was good. I'm not sure. The thing is about Sherlock Holmes, he can get tedious and this movie I think was trying to uplift it, give it more speed, more rhythm, it is Guy Ritchie after all.
I love both Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, and they were great, because they are great! Robert Downey Jr. especially he is true to his trade and very much the chameleon.
None the less I wasn't glued to my seat, and I was also fading (falling asleep) probably because I was over tired. However, I liked the wittiness, I also liked how they solved it all at the end with explanations, but they should have slowed that scene down a little because it was hard for me to follow at the typical Guy Ritchie pace.
Also, fabulous Costume and backgrounds, not to mention very good looking figures, they must have worked hard for that alone.
