Chauvinistic country and bank.

One of the down sides, that there is no separation between religion and state is that you end up with a chauvinistic country. Like many other religions, the Jewish religion also delegates the woman to the more “traditional” role and lets the man play head honcho.

Mind you, I will admit, sometimes I hide behind those roles, they can be terribly convenient.

Anyway, as some of you already know, when I got married, I wanted to keep my maiden name…for DH sake I hyphenated, even though I couldn’t really give a damn about his last name, but since he is very traditional and quite sentimental, I hyphenated mine, as I might add is quite the done thing in Israel (some men are doing it for thier wife)

Of course in our chauvinistic country that allows the religious to have the final say in Birth, Marriage and Burial…or as the English say “Hatch em, Match em, Dispatch em” when I first married I discovered they had automatically changed my name in the register to DH last name; I had to make an official change of name with the ministry of interior in order to keep my maiden name.

Now, why am I dredging this all up again? Because we are now registering our "new" flat, and though the mortgage is in both our names, the Bank turns out is chauvinistic as well! They wrote my last name down as my husbands last name, even though when I provided them with the 101 documents they required, my hyphenated last name was right there.

However, since our lawyer got it right, and wanted to register the flat in both our names, the office that handles registering properties got in a pickle over this, so they are now asking to see a copy of my ID and Marriage certificate. Sigh!

Don’t you just love bureaucrats!
