Cake for Seder Night

Apr 01, 2009 12:32

For the 1st night of Passover we will be with my family, for the 2nd we will be with my ILS.

Typically the 2nd one isn't celebrated in Israel because according to tradition only Jews who live in the Diaspora should celebrate it 2 nights in a row in order not to miss the correct day. [Whacky, aren't we]

However, when ever it's not MIL's turn we always have 2 Seder nights since she doesn't care about the date and this year it was supposed to be her turn but she didn't want to have it on the date, as she wanted a whole day of cooking…that suited me just fine, as I hate it that my dad doesn't have many to celebrate with…I mean he can always go to my mom's cousin, but he prefers to be at home.

Anyway, I recognize that my MIL goes to a lot of trouble preparing the meal; I know she enjoyes to do so, but none the less I thought we should bring something. I can not buy gifts for her, because gifts are too difficult. FIL is always happy with a bottle of wine, so that is easy. So I thought I'll get dessert. I'm not going to try and make it because I don't want to take chances and I'll be busy the day before making chicken soup and matzo balls for my dad's Seder.

Since MIL and FIL don't keep. I know this place http://www.dorit-anat.co.il/ugot.asp that makes cakes without flour year round [so that is kosher for Passover enough for me]…they told me all the meringues and mouses are without flour. I originally wanted to get something for my dad's Seder but they don't make any without sugar, so that is a bit of an issue since my dad is a diabetic, though I know my brothers would demolish it.  Hmmm. I'll get two…Our office get's a small discount $4.5 and they deliver to our office.

What do you think? Lemon meringue / Hazelnut meringue / Strawberry meringue or the Orange Chocolate mouse and meringue cake?

after thought: I'll get my family one anyway, I asked my dad if the kosher issue bothers him and it does not...he only wants the Lemon meringue though. My dad said what the mind doesn't know the heart doesn't grieve :-P
