St. Patty's Day -- and a Shameless Plug

Mar 12, 2011 01:06

You know, what's funny for tonight is the fact that I've always wanted to do something bigger for St. Patty's Day, and now that we've finally the opportunity to do so, I find out that the braggart that the day is named for makes the jolly, Irish holiday absolutely worth NOT celebrating.  I couldn't be prouder of my Irish blood -- but I'm just as proud of my beliefs, as are all our family.  Bloody St. Patrick was the missionary who took most of the responsibility for converting Irish Pagans to Christianity, and for that very reason, and thus the realization of the holiday's true meaning, we'll no longer be celebrating the holiday.

Oddly enough, we know a lad from Ireland and were rather blown away when he told us that St. Patty's is no longer that big a day in Ireland herself.  Now we have to wonder if purrhaps this has anything to do with that, but who can honestly say, especially with all the holidays now being so commercialized?  As Elvira put it, this isn't Halloween, this is Shalloween, just another excuse for hawksters to hawk something, and, oh, by the way . . .

Tonight starts a new challenge week for XDisneyDreamers, where fans of X-Men, Disney, and DreamWorks dream big together!
