Greetings, Santa!
First of all, thank you SO MUCH for taking the time and effort to write something for me. This is my first time participating in years and years, and I'm so excited to be part of it. I'm sure whatever you make will be wholly delightful, and I will be giddy on Christmas while I read it. if you want to incorporate anything I include in this letter, that's awesome! If you're not feeling it, I absolutely trust your authorly judgment and am sure it will be great.
In general I love stories that focus on character relationships and emotional dynamics. Slice of life stories are awesome, particularly ones that illuminate times and events canon hasn't explored. If you want to go into adult content that is absolutely fine with me but don't feel like you have to. Dialogue is one of my favorite things about stories. I prefer hopeful endings even if they aren't necessarily happy ones.
Austin-Murry-O'Keefe Families -- Madeline L'Engle
Charles Wallace Murry, Calvin O'Keefe, Meg Murry-O'Keefe.
Oh, my darlings. The Time Quartet is the book series of MY HEART. I love all the Murrys and how Calvin got adopted into the family. Something set before A Swiftly Tilting Planet would be so great, because it's a time period where a lot of big interpersonal things happen that weren't explored. What was Meg's college life like? Did they have any mini adventures where Charles Wallace got them a little in over their heads? How did Calvin decide to go into marine biology? Or even just them shooting the shit drinking 3 a.m. cocoa during another storm, seriously, anything at all.
Batwoman
Kate's slice of Gotham life is endlessly fascinating to me, anything set there would please me. I am fascinated by the line between Batwoman and Kate and the way she's evolved from bright-eyed cadet to hot mess party girl to stoic crime fighter. Then there's the other people in her life: her dad, Bette, Renee, Maggie. What's it like for Maggie to be living away from her daughter, what kind of connections does she have to the city beyond Kate? What would happen if Renee came back from her DC limbo? It doesn't have to be serious either and feel free to see how Kate interacts with the rest of the Batfamily. Including ass-kicking is always appreciated but by no means mandatory.
Batgirl
Stephanie Brown, Cassandra Cain
Okay, my OTHER favorite butt-kicking Bat ladies. I would prefer a story set after Steph's taken on the Batgirl mantle, but don't feel restricted to that. Their relationship platonic or otherwise is so strong and I'd love to see that explored. I think Steph and Cass really bring out the best in each other. The supporting characters are all awesome beyond compare and just because I didn't nominate them specifically I love Babs, Wendy, Damian, Detective Gage and everyone else. Don't feel restricted to just Gotham either since Cass is Black Bat-ing it up in Hong Kong (Stephanie Brown's Semester Abroad?) but just, yes, these two, their relationship, potential hijinks and crime busting, everything made of awesome.
American Gods
This is canon where anything at all can be explored. I love the mythic elements of the novel, just the gods' stories but America as a modern myth. There's such a rich mine of characters to explore on either a personal level or delving into their backstories be it as gods or otherwise. Shadow is really the heart of the story for me, but I can never get enough Eostre. Laura is so interesting to me too, it would be fascinating to see her exploration of America and if she ran into Mr. Ibis and Mr. Jacquel, gods of the underworld and a dead woman, or Eostre, goddess of spring and rebirth. Or the Zorya! Or bring in a myth or god that hadn't been explored in the novel but surely is in some pocket of America. Go wild, I am sure it'll be grand.
