a day without the internet...

For some reason I was without an internet connection yesterday. It was the first day in about three weeks that I put the books to the side to enjoy a “free day”. In other words, I had planned on doing nothing but sitting in front of the computer all day. What was I to do without it?!! There were tears…but mostly cursing at the erratic dial-up connection.

I ended up clothes shopping for my trip and rediscovered how painful it is to fork out money for clothes. Why does buying clothes give me such a guilty conscience when it doesn’t faze me in the least to spend all my life’s wages on books and DVDs? Five tops, three pairs of pants, and two pairs of shoes later and …*gazes sorrowfully at empty wallet* …I still think the iPod FM Radio Transmitter looked much more worth the buck (well, sixty of them).

And last night my brother and I had a Tenth Doctor marathon, in which his opinions somewhat surprise me.

Seriously, don’t assume things about eleven year old boys. I told him he would probably like “Tooth and Claw” the best, what with the martial-arts!monks and the running and hiding from the scuuury wolf. If not “Tooth and Claw,” surely “New Earth” would have done the trick.

His favorite was “School Reunion”. Actually, he watched it again after I had gone to bed. He thought it was cool that the ep took place in a school (that was blown up in the end, no less) and he liked the idea of the Doctor running into a past companion (even though he has even less knowledge of classic Who than I do). Mr. Finch creeped him out (“Giles is evil?!! Huh?") while he was amused by Mickey and K-9.

I also had to ask him afterwards…wait for it…Nine or Ten. Ten, right? He’s more active with the sword-fighting and running about and can be a bit goofier. Right?

C: Nine.
Me: Really?
C: He just seems more serious.
Me: But they’re essentially the same guy. You know that, right?
C: That’s stupid. They’re name is the same, and I guess they have the same memories, but their personalities are completely different. I mean, Ten even treats Rose differently than Nine did.
Me: Hmm.
C: Besides, you like this one because you think he’s hot.
Me: Heh. Please, I’m not that shallow. *cough*But he is nice to ogle*cough*

The conversation was lengthier-we also started talking about presidents and bashing Bush in the middle of it-but it was interesting. He’s always busy teasing me about my Who obsession that I never realized how much he is enjoying season one on the Sci-Fi channel. Yay.

My mom, bless her, just doesn’t get it. We were all watching “The Empty Child” Friday night…

Mom: Did I tell you that Sally is moving to…
Me: Shhhhh!!
C: Shhhhh!!
Mom: …Sorry

Two minutes later…

Mom: You two actually understand what’s going on?

*Headdesk* During one of the hundred or so commercials I tried explaining to her that it doesn’t quite work like a thirty-minute cheap-humor sitcom. All you have to do it sit down and watch it, actually watch it, and not try to start conversations about this and that in the beginning, middle, and end of the episode in order to “get” the storyline.

Well, I have packing, cleaning, and studying to avoid do, but more importantly, catching up on the flist and email writing, so I’ll go ahead an end this exciting post. Right.
