One of my female co-workers (MS) told me a story today that made me choke with laughter. Apparently she just ran into someone(JJ) she used to work with a few years back. After the normal hellos their conversation went something like this....
MS: So, did ya get married?
JJ: Yeah I did.
MS: Congratulations!(happily)
JJ: Oh well he's dead now.(matter of factly)
MS: Oh I'm sorry.(sadly)
JJ: Don't be, he was cheating on me.(With a grin)
MS: Well good then.(nervously)
JJ: Yeah I had just asked the cheating bastard for.a divorce the day before he died.
MS: You seem to be taking it well.
JJ: Yeah after he died I lost 38 pounds.
At this point I was drinking a soda, which when I started laughing went down the wrong pipe. I'm not laughing at the guys death but at how nonchalantly the friend replied to the questions. It sounds almost like a conversation Elaine from Seinfeld would be having with one of her friends. At the same time I thought "Wow! He only weighed 38 pounds?". I wish I had conversations like this!
