For the past month or so I've been driving my car with a busted spring. I believe while driving around I hit one of the city's many pot holes and broke it. Now whenever I make a tight turn there is a loud sproing sound. I know I should have taken it in sooner but I was worried about how much it would cost and not being able to pay for it. I don't own a credit card and don't want one because of the temptation that would pose.
Anyway, I brought my car in to the Sears auto center at the mall I work at to get an estimate. To replace the spring and both front struts will cost around $671. They claim that the busted spring bent the one strut out of place and that they have to replace both front ones because if they only fix one the car will be uneven. I don't know how much of this is true though because I know nothing about cars.
I need to get the car fixed soon because Chris leiny and I will be driving my car to Canada at the end of June. Obviously I don't want to be doing that much driving on a busted wheel. My problem is if I can't find a cheaper place to do a the repairs. I may not have enough money for the trip.
My question is this, is anyone or does anyone know someone who is a good mechanic and cheaply priced? I really need this done and over with.
