Regarding the DH stuff: The Elder Wand seemed to be at least known of a little, given how Xenophilius Lovegood talks about the historical evidence for it. So Dumbledore had knowledge of that one from at least the time he fought Grindelwald. He found out about James's cloak just before James and Lily's deaths, and while he didn't find the Resurrection Stone until just before HBP started, he had to have known the Hallows were real well before then.
If I had to guess, I'd say his remarks in Beedle the Bard are an attempt to dissuade the curious from going to look for them, as they pose considerable danger if they fall into the wrong hands.
