How could I have NOT seen this before?!
I have not really had a chance to consider the full symbolic implications of this, but it only just dawned on me that there is likely some hidden meaning behind the character Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter series. His name in the books is Remus Lupin, which never really stirred much interest with me until about 30 minutes ago, but the Roman word for wolf (I'm getting this from Wikipedia) is Lupa.
That in and of itself is odd, but think on this: In roman mythology, the twin brothers Romulus and Remus (father by Mars, the god of war) are almost killed, but are essentially smuggled out of town and raised by a wolf. Remus Lupin is a werewolf. This cannot be a coincidence.
