Sunday picspam this week is going to be a tad light.
This week was my first full work week since going out for surgery. It was good to be back to work and feeling like I was settling into all my projects again, but it did take some time away from sim stuff.
It's interesting. Very often, when I take vacation time, it's for a reason. I'm going to some con, or someone's in town, or whatever. By the time that's wrapped up and I need to get back to work, I don't really feel as refreshed as a vacation should make you feel. Usually by the time I'm back from some trip, I want a vacation from the vacation. This is why, if I can, I try and schedule a day off between the end of the vacation and the start of work. Anyway, with the medical leave for the surgery, I was really starting to go stir crazy with nothing to do and by the time I was back to work, I actually did feel refreshed.
This week, I also started doing a little bit of work on the game I'm going to be running for the Saturday group. I came up with an info sheet of sorts to talk about the setting and some of the system crunch, as well as a questionnaire for the players to fill out to kind of give life to the characters. We spent a couple hours on Saturday going through the questionnaires and discussing characters and establishing connections between them. I think it was a fun exercise to set things up.
Next week I'll actually be running the game, so between now and then, I need to come up with the super powers each character will be developing as part of the story. It should be fun, as long as I don't leave it to the very last minute like I am prone to do. :) There's actually a couple of people I want to powwow with to see if they can offer me some interesting suggestions for these characters.
The other reason I didn't get too much done in the simverse this week is what I had to play...
I don't think I mentioned it in a picspam, but I had to say goodbye to Genesis at the end of the summer rotation. Micah was a bit younger, but only by a couple of days. This meant it was his turn to go in the middle of the fall rotation. This is also the rotation that Matthew will go. Persephone could either go at the very end, or at the very beginning of winter.
It's a mixed bag saying goodbye to the generation three sims. The glacial pace of my playing for the last year has meant I've been preparing myself to say goodbye to them for quite some time. They've had a good run and they've been lovely characters to develop and write. It's more than a little sad to finally say goodbye, but it's definitely time.
That said, Micah went out just like he would have wanted to. There was a party want in his panel, so he threw a party and invited many of his 35+ friends to the house.
Young, old, family or townie, he was friends with everyone.
Each generation I seem to have an ultimate popularity sim. In generation 3, it was Micah. Generation 4, it was Miranda. Generation 5 is still shaking out. It could be Jacob (Micah's oldest grandson) who achieved his 20 best friends before college, but I also wouldn't count out Jo or Sam just yet.
If I hadn't had to do a rebuild, Micah would have died with 50+ best friends. If I remember correctly, when the hood died, he had about 45 while Miranda had 52.
In case you didn't notice, I am fond of my pop sims. :)
Micah will definitely be missed. There was a lot of this going around.
(Matthew and all three of his grandsons.)
Matthew will be next to go, which is one reason why I'm dragging my feet on playing. I want to get Gen 5 to college, but to do so, I'm going to have to say goodbye to more of Gen 3.
So, to sum up, not much playing happened this week, but things are moving forward. Slowly, sadly, happily.
This is one of the reasons I love this game so much, even if it breaks my heart sometimes to say goodbye to characters that have come to mean a great deal to me.
Yeah, I'm a sap. :)
