The Cliff

I stand on an old stone cliff, with my back to the abyss.
If I do not walk, the tired rubble will crumble beneath my weight from eons of erosion.
If I take just one regretful step back, I will fall into the darkness, never to return.
My fear shakes the rock, and my weight bears down on the loosened pebbles;
I must walk faster so that I do not let gravity claim both the earth and myself.
If I run, I will surely fall, and slam against the jagged path.
Without looking back, without fear, and without foolishness, I must persevere.
