Two Recs and Harry Potter Fandom

Jul 04, 2010 00:09

My first rec is for the Female Character Love Friending Meme (find on : LJ / DW). Share the love for it, guys. The more people the better.

Now for my HP fandom ramblings. Ever since I started getting reports of DH filming ending, I started getting these sinking feelings in my stomach. And it occured to me that it was because HP fandom would officially have a closed canon for the first time since I joined it, way back when I was thirteen years old. And that sort of scares me. I'm worried that having a canon with absolutely nothing new coming in (and while sure, the movies aren't considered canon like the books are, they still bring in new blood all of the time) the fandom will die.

And that's a terrifying thought for me. Like I said, I've been in this fandom since I was thirteen. That's a whole decade of Harry Potter. And if it were to die, I would feel so ... lost, I guess is the right word. It's always been there for me to fall back on, no matter what else was going on. I know that eventually it will fade, everything does, but I just don't think I could stand it happening anytime soon. So, well, here's to hoping that it doesn't die, and that the Harry Potter fans are fans forever.

And now that I've said all of that, here's my comm rec:

Relive the magic @ hp_commonroom

Re-read all of the books (at the speed of one chapter per day, with a week break between books - planned so that we'll finish them all just before the last movie is released), have party posts, re-watch the films, get sorted, join discussion posts, and gossip like there's no tomorrow. It is an offshoot of ONTD, though, so there tends to be some of the sexist and ableist language that goes along with that - though with over 1,200 members, there's a pretty good variety in level of awareness.
