To the best of my recollection nothing particularly bad ever happens to Vincent on the island. Nor does he do anything that bad, although he's a bit of Jonah sometimes and tends to get lost in the jungle a lot. I think he finds a dead body at one point.

He's currently (UK) not part of the show but the last time we saw him he was happy and well-looked after.

(I had the same dread reading The Gates by John Connolly where the main character has a pet dog. My mind has just been so trained to expect the pet to end up sacrificed to show the villainy of the bad guy/seriousness of the situation.)

Thanks!

And I think you're right. I'm pretty trained to think that if a pet is introduced in a genre book, it's usually to be killed/tortured.

The next episode is the finale, and nothing terrible has happened to the dog. For the most part, the dog is a used throughout the show as a device of levity and joy - people are always happy to see him, to see that he's okay and that he's not lost.

I haven't watched much of Lost, so I can't answer your question, but I will say, I sympathize, and damn, don't ever read Watchmen.
