30 Day Writing Meme: Day Fifteen

15. Midway question! Tell us about a writer you admire, whether professional or not!

Neil Gaiman is someone I admire, even though I'm not fond of some of his works. I like his quirky sense of characters and plot, and his ability to work with a variety of mediums. He strikes me as a wonderfully odd storyteller, and that's awesome in my book.

I also love Carrie Ryan. I listened to Forest of Hands and Teeth on my honeymoon, and was unable to put it down. I seriously listened to it all the way through. And then I was delighted at getting The Dead-Tossed Waves right when it came out, reading that one straight through, too. I love how her prose grabs me and drags me in, how her emotional scenes are so taut, and how deeply I care about the characters.

Not really a shock to anyone, but I have a deep and abiding loyalty to JK Rowling. Harry Potter was there for me during times when nobody and nothing else was. It helped me through a hard time, and is something that has kept me obsessed with it for almost a decade. And that's saying something. JK was one of my inspirations for writing Larkenia's Flaws, even though they're quite unalike in content.

There's a whole mess more, authors of original fiction, non-fiction, fan fiction, poetry, scripts, plays, etc out there, who are a part of me and made me who I am. I almost feel like I'm a bad fan, for not saying anything about them, but they're there, all the same. I should really talk about them more. *muses*
