Fandom FML -- BBangs And Ficathons Aren't Easy

Jun 28, 2009 19:46

Well, I feel royally fucked. I was waiting until the last minute to sign up for scifibigbang in case the Star Trek big bang idea ever went through. Well, this morning I realized that it was two days until the end of sign-ups for the SciFi Big Bang. I figured, 'well, I might forget to sign-up, so I better do it now.'

I checked all over my flist for word on the official Star Trek big bang, couldn't find anything, and caved. I signed-up for the SciFi Big Bang.

So, I took my dog for a walk, came home, and what did I find on my flist? The damned startrekbigbang is now-up-and-running. FML.

So I either have to do two stories, stick with just the SciFi BB, duck out of the SciFi BB and then join the Star Trek BB, or, uhm....switch fandoms on the SciFi BB. I guess the last option isn't unheard of...I did have a Harry Potter idea floating around in my head for that.

Still, I'm definitely in a 'fuck,' mode right now.

Why does it matter which BB I sign up for? Well, the fandom-targeted comms will probably have people more knowledgeable about the canon for betas, cheerleaders, and artists/remixers. That would be great for a relative fandom-writing n00b such as myself. It would also show the comm makers that yeah, there's definitely a hella lot of interest in the themes.

On the flip side, a non-specific BB comm would help make the writer feel less surrounded by scary long-time fans. Definitely intimidating.

On top of all of that wangst, I have to finish my damn Apocalyptothon story. I've done four or five different versions, switched requests, and tried again -- and I'm still running in circles. I keep getting good ideas for it, but the damn thoughts won't translate into workable text. ^^;;

Yayness, though, is that True Blood is on tonight. And I finally got Dead in Dallas in the mail from Paperback Swap, so I can start that at any time. Woot.

A few more notes: I miss the built-in spellcheck that I use on my laptop. Dad's comp doesn't have it, and I always panic that I'm misspelling things and looking like a moron. Also, yes: half the time I totally pick my mood, or at least a synonym for it, based on the image that my mood theme has. ^^;;
