Entry #A-16: "Anesthesiologist"

Just when I think I'm starting to get the hang of this place... two of my housemates get attacked. I must confess, I'm at a loss to explain this rationally. But then again, what else is new ( Read more... )

The thing is, very few have any authority in their own world that people here will recognize, and I don't think anyone is universally accepted as being a good leader. Further, we don't have laws or consequences.

But I do agree that it would be nice if the helpless had some recourse.

I've discovered that thing about authority rather quickly. It's a shame... but the laws and consequences issue should be addressed, and soon. I'm not one for dictatorships and I stay out of government affairs as much as possible, but it's ridiculous to run society this chaotically.

I'd like to start compiling a list of the strongest who can keep those who would do harm under control. What do you think?

I think that's a very poor idea. Might does not make right. And there are lot of strong people who would be adverse to laws and rules.

Leadership needs to be gained through respect. A list will not do it, Ryuuzaki.

No... you misunderstand. Obviously, this would exclude the people who pose a threat, like Hidan and Gaara. I want to know who can stand up to the bullies, not who can crush them into oblivion.

I was almost stabbed the other day, and my friend came close to death. I hope that you're not so adverse to anyone else attempting to assert themselves that you mistakenly see this as some sort of attempt to gain control or leadership, because I'd like none of that. I just want things to be safer for people like myself and Kenta. So, perhaps it is a selfish request, to ask for protection from the strong, but at least it is honest and nothing compared to grasping for power or influence. A list is a tool, nothing more, an organizational aid, and there is nothing wrong with knowing where Adstringendum's meeker inhabitants stand. Wouldn't you agree?

Gaara? Gaara of the Sand village? He's been here before; he was a very nice young man! Who have you been talking to?

There's nothing wrong with seeking protection. But you said you wanted the list to see "who can keep those who would do harm under control." That's far more than seeking protection, Ryuuzaki. That is control, and influence, and power.

Who have I been talking to...? Clearly, more people than you've been... were you asleep during that whole Kakashi business?

I'm sorry. I say that with all due respect.

Again, I'm afraid you misunderstand. I want to see the logistics and assist in organizing a more efficient... "law enforcement", for lack of a better term, so that the weak are not preyed on so easily by the wicked and powerful. For instance, someone got to Hidan following his attempted murders. That's useful. That's the type of person I would ask for help

It's only those things on a very, very basic level. Organization and a request to use abilities for a noble cause... this is my only objective.

You act like you're afraid of something, though. Otherwise, I don't believe you would have leaped to the conclusion that I intended to use a list (knowing that list-keeping is a normal trait for me) in order to gain power and control. If any man can do such a thing simply with a list, I would like to meet him, for true.

I don't think anyone could have slept through that.

But that ties into who has the right to choose laws and enforce them. You are asking for a police force in a place that is not yet set up to support such a thing.

Asking someone to help you out, perhaps even to live with you, is a simple, basic level. Again, your own words, which you did not respond to, are "keep those who would do harm under control." That is not a very, very basic level. A list alone is not dangerous. But you already revealed your end goal in having that list.

I'm afraid of the fragile connections the community already having being broken apart by a police force suddenly showing up. I can think of a few people with good intentions who could go much too far with it.
