It seems like forever since we last spoke, and twice that since we've seen each other. Technology has prevailed, at least. Emails and text messages are the closest we get to conversation, and at that, my heart buckles under the weight of pain, love, memories and regrets.
Still, not a single day passes without a song, or a car, or laugh, or a smell, or a bad joke, or a funny one, or a plane, or a bears game, or a movie, or a dream reminding me of the person i used to know. and of the thing that we used to be. sometimes i'm convinced my bones ache because they miss him too.
