In what way does striving for something we believe in, beautiful?
In running, we work endless hours, we run countless miles. All for what? Some poeple ask...for some of us, its to look good or stay in shape. For others its about running a certain time. For people like me though... its about being as competitve as you can be. I always want to do my best. So I run 60...70...80 miles a week. I know that ultimately, the ends justify the means. The 60 miles a week will pay off in the end. I know that in the end, the result will be beautiful. Because its something I've worked so hard for. Steve prefontaine once said... "Some people create with words or with music or with a brush and paints. I like to make something beautiful when I run. I like to make people stop and say, 'I've never seen anyone run like that before.' It's more than just a race, it's a style. It's doing something better than anyone else. It's being creative." And thats what it is for some of us. Its about doing something... our way... better then anyone before. When I run its not about how good I look or who has the prettiest form. Its about going out there to compete. I know that at 6 am it sucks to run,but I also know that extra run in the morning will benefit me because my compeitionm is sleeping. So for me... running is a style, its a way of life. Its how I express myself. And it may not be beautiful to some, but for me... its beautiful.
