May Prompt 1 - World Ending
The world is ending. You are in charge of planetary evacuation. Aside from your friends, family, and loved ones, you must decide who to save -- you can only save five people. Who are they and why do you save them?
The Dali Lama would be at the top of the list after my family and friends. He has the gentlest spirit and his whole being just exudes spirituality. It's not that I would want the next civilization to begin with Buddhism or that be the only religion, only that my new world would probably be a reflection of me and my Pollyanna mindset. Who better to start it off than the Dali Lama?
Stephen Hawking would be next. Sure there would be medical issues and people wondering why I'd bring him along, but to me he has the greatest mind. If we're going to another planet, I'd like the man that understands black holes and quantum mechanics along for the ride. Mind, body and spirit are the main things you'd have to think about in your new world. The Dali Lama would be the spirit and Stephen Hawking would be the mind.
For the body, I'd choose Craig Mello for his work with RNA. Since we're going off-world someone that understands RNA would be very handy to have. Who knows what organisms we'll find out there?
My guess is the reason the world is ending is because we messed it up so I'd bring along Al Gore. He's been talking about global warming since his time in college and if anyone would be able to get us going on the right foot it'd be him.
Lastly, I'd bring along a historian. Someone that would be able to tell the history and stories of most of the cultures of the world that we're leaving and would begin to record the history of the new world. No name on this one, just a generic historian/anthropology expert.
