2.1 Who do you wish you were?

Sometimes, life would be so much easier for Evelyn if she was simply her boss. David Remnick was the Editor-in-Chief of The New Yorker, where she worked. The two had always gotten along rather well, especially considering he wasn't her direct supervisor.

Still, he was rich, he was from New Jersey yet lived in New York, and he seemed to have no huge problems. The main thing that attracted Evelyn to David's position was the "rich" part, since everything else was going fairly smoothly in her life.

All things considered.

She knew, though, that she would never rise to become Editor-in-Chief of anything, and more than that? She didn't want to. It came with money, true, but it also came with a great deal of responsibility that she didn't really want, despite all her talks.

No, what she really wanted was the wealth. She still had school loans to pay off from Columbia University, and that was what hit her the hardest. Evelyn refused to take any money from her parents because of her stubborn pride.

She looked at the few notes she had on the recluse she'd been interviewing and daydreamed slightly. He was rich, richer than David, richer than most people that anyone knew. In fact, nobody really knew what he was worth.

I could marry him and pay off all my debts, she thought to herself with a smile on her face. Maybe that was the solution, then. She could be David, without his job or responsibilities, and married to Gregory Coleville.

Yes, that would do nicely.
