Kevin's sense of surprise had been dulled significantly by all the things that had occurred since his appearing onboard, but some things, he just wasn't prepared for.

Like seeing Uhura sitting in a rec room onboard this ship.

"Uhura?" he asked. "Is that really you?"

Uhura looked up sharply. Oh. There was a face she recognized.

"Guilty as charged," she confessed, blinking at him. "I didn't know you were here!"

"I didn't know you were here, either! How long have you been here? It can't have been long, or I would've known. Does the Captain know you're here?" He realized how he probably sounded and gave her an apologetic smile. "Sorry.

Uhura laughed.

"No, no! Don't be sorry. It's only been a couple of days." She smiled. "And both captains know I'm here. How long have you been here?"

His smile softened. "Good. I've been here for..." He thought about it. Crap. Had it really been that long? So much time had passed since he'd appeared aboard this ship, and so much had happened. "I've been here about six months."

"And managed to stay male, as well!" She smiled at him. "It's a big ship. How are you finding it?"

He grinned. "Managed to stay my own age, too. I'm finding it...alright. Got to know the layout of the ship pretty well my first few days here, especially Engineering and Sickbay."

She nodded slowly. "I've been put on rota. And I'm rooming with Christine. Since it looks like we won't be getting back any time soon, it seemed best. Are you working in Engineering, then?"

Kevin nodded. "So, how are things back in our universe? It's been so long...I'm sure Scotty's holding down the fort pretty well, though."

Uhura smiled. "Oh, yes. You know Scotty. He's - not too happy being left in charge of things, but we've gotten hold of Starfleet headquarters. They were due to send him orders right around the time I was accidentally sent here. I'm sure they'll have some ideas what to do." She shrugged. "And you know Scotty would blow himself up before he let anything happen to the Enterprise."
