I always find it amazing.

You know someone means something to you when just seeing them can make a really bad day into a good one. Just their presence alone makes all the previous shit of the day seem worth it because you got to spend a few minuts or hours with them. It's a good feeling. And this time, it makes sense.

Everything should be good today. It's the summer solstice today, the first day of summer, and it's absolutely gorgeous - at least it is in Nanaimo.

And who's the girl this time?

Some leopards never change their spots. And, while I don't know which girl still, I should say that it's impolite to hit on Derek's ex.

Impolite? oriann June 22 2005, 08:08:16 UTC
Now, if Justine had been Derek's "one great love" or even his first love or some girl that he pined over constantly, then I might respect that. But when she's a girl that, more or less, had a brief few-week rebound with Derek, then I don't exactly consider her some forbidden fruit.

Besides, that's in the past and it really has no impact on whether or not Justine and I like or do not like each other. Who would want to begrudge other people's happiness for their own selfishness?

I agree gideus June 22 2005, 08:51:03 UTC
Anyone who says its impolite to hit on someones ex does not understand the concept of being an "ex-gf/bf". "Ex" implies that the relationship is over, thus the person is 100% fair game.
Its a really selfish person who would say "don't hit on her, I *used* to date her, and therefore you shouldn't" (unless you have some deep and terrible secret that makes dating the person a life threatening proposition).
And anyone who mentions "political correctness" or "rules" about dating also has no clue. Love and dating have no rules, thats what makes it so much fun (as well as painful). But hey, no ying without yang eh?

I DO NOT AGREE silver_jade June 22 2005, 17:12:27 UTC
Of course there are rules to dating! What are you, blind? (Oh, that was a cheap shot, sorry.) If there weren't rules to dating it wouldn't be so gloriously awkward and more people would be less happy. Why do you think divorce rates are so high in the U.S.? (By the by, U.S. 50%, Canada 15%.)

And of course it's impolite to hit on an ex. Yeesh. Just because some people would rather keep their feelings to themselves and a few close friends doesn't mean there was nothing there. What if it was Diana? or Ashley? that Ty was hitting on? Jealousy and bitterness are stubborn emotions for a reason.

Anyway, we'll be in the Vally today if anyone wants to hang out. ;-)

Rules to dating? Please, that's probably the most retarded thing I've ever heard next to Derek's "wingman" theory. Love is love and it will go where it's sent. The idea that one person becomes off limits if another person dates them is selfish and arrogant. There was no spark between Justine and Derek so why should her and I not be allowed to discover if there is one between us?

And if it were Diana or Ashleigh, I -know- Jed would give me his blessing because they are his Ex's. As in, he no longer has a romantic relationship with them. At all. That's the past.

I have to work this afternoon and evening so I am disappointed to say I won't be able to see you guys :(

Ha ha. But seriously... silver_jade June 26 2005, 22:14:26 UTC
That's too bad. But that day sucked regardless.

I'd just like to point out that despite the fact that you deny their ecistence the rules still exist. And sometimes they work. Fuck, I've been following the rules for years, and now I'm extraordinarily happy. Well, mostly. It takes some major fuck-ups to realize that the rules are there for a reason, and bending them is fine; to a certain extent even breaking them is good. But they can never be ignored.

Wow. So I was right. I dutifully request a plaque be made in my honour. It should read: "Miranda Nelson - She's Always Right".

You want my prediction for how things will go this time? I'm better than the fucking Oracle, bitches.

This may be the best post I've ever read. There's something about the line "Better than the fucking Oracle, bitches" that I find masterful. Kudos Miranda.
