A question about LONDON????

To any British readers that might be out there, can anyone suggest an economic, student friendly hotel in London?

If it was any other city in Europe I'd suggest staying out of town and catching the train in, since it's cheaper that way. As it goes, I can ask around for you.

Okay. Asked around. My nan says it's a lot cheaper and much safer to stay in a hotel on the outskirts of the central area, rather than a guest house in the centre. She suggests a Travel Lodge that's just on the other side of the Blackwall Tunnel, because it is in such a position. You can catch the bus to anywhere in London from there, and you don't face the crowds, and the possible bad characters that hang around in the central areas.

This Travel Lodge is in the Industrial Area near the Millenium Dome, so it's probably one of the safest neighbourhoods; it's also much cleaner than central London, and cheaper to stay in because it isn't in a popular place - though it only costs a couple of quid for a day pass on the bus or the underground, so it does eventually cost much less.

The hotel itself is much safer, too. They're not going to diddle you, because you can sue them. There're video cameras in the bar areas so you don't get robbed or dragged off by some random stranger, and they won't touch your stuff, which you can't really depend on with some little places. So if you've got cameras, or a laptop with you, they're safe in the hotel room.

Erm. Anyway. If I can find out the exact name of the hotel/road it's on, I'll get back to you.

She said it was 38 pounds a night for two people. So it's probably about 28 pounds for one person. I wouldn't know, myself. But it'd probably be like ninety quid a night in centro.

Anyway, I'll go surf and look for you. Ever the helpful bee, as it were.
