Good morning everyone, and Happy New Year - almost. I'm new to the community (via
domestic_bliss) and thought I'd introduce myself -- and share a great organizational tip that I put to use this week while cleaning and purging my apartment post-Christmas.
I live in a large studio apartment -- a fifth floor walk-up in a 150-year-old building. Which means that space is limited, and lugging massive amounts of items in and out of storage isn't really an option. I went out to purchase one of those over-the-door shoe racks to hold all of my pumps for work, and found a great piece for about $7. On a whim, I bought two of them, since I have two closets in the space, and figured I'd be able to put it to some semblance of good use.
There is now one hanger in each closet, one filled with shoes, bags, and hosiery. The other is filled with all of my cleaning supplies (bathroom, kitchen, general), sponges, scrubby pads, polishing cloths, and all of the wraps I ordinarily use in the kitchen (plastic, wax, foil, parchment paper, ziplocs, etc.). It's working beautifully -- the space was otherwise going to waste, and I was always trying to rummage under the kitchen sink (which is small anyway) to find what I was looking for. Now everything is at eye-level, in clear pockets. And I have extra space under the sink to store a variety of buckets and baskets that I don't use frequently.
