All dust and rock and dried earth, Korriban was a barren planet. But it was not an uninhabited one; Czerka Corporation was there with its outpost and, what Revan had been reluctant to visit the most of all, the Sith Academy.
Dust and dirt swirled as the boarding ramp lowered and clanked to the ground and Revan frowned as the sound of the docking bay mechanics mingled with the sounds of those - Mission chattering with Juhani and Zaalbar in the main compartment and T3M4 whizzing about - aboard the Hawk.
He leaned against the bulkhead, waiting for Carth to finish the docking procedures for the Hawk and Jolee to finish gathering necessary equipment and items. Revan had what he needed, or so he thought; his lightsaber, a few frag grenades, a couple of stimulants. He hoped they’d be able to find the Star Map, the last piece they needed in order to pinpoint the location of the Star Forge, as soon as possible and be off this dust ridden planet.
There were heavy footfalls across the metal plating and Revan looked up, eying the bulky figure of Canderous Ordo as the older man approached him and joined him, leaning against the bulkhead.
"We fought against the Republic forces for some time, over the course of many battles,"
started Canderous, after some moments and with no preamble, gruff voice reverberating.
"At the start, they were not much of a threat to speak of, but once you had taken charge, things began to turn against us.
The Republic fleet began to use more than just basic tactics. Feints, counterattacks, mass deceptions. You were a genius on the field. You abandoned worlds of their defenders so that others would be too fortified to strike. You made sacrifices in order to advance you goals."
Revan’s brow furrowed as Canderous continued.
"I still remember that final battle in the skies above Malachor V. The two fleets filling the space around it, outshining the stars..."
Revan looked up at the mention of Malachor V, raising an eyebrow at the older man.
"What happened there?"
"It was not your ships or your men or your vaunted 'fight for freedom' that won this, the final battle of the war. It was by the actions of one person - you - that the Republic prevailed.
Your strategies and tactics defeated the best we could send against you. Even Mandalor himself was taken aback by the ferocity of your attacks, the tenacity of your defenses and the subtleties of your plans.
You fought us to a standstill and then began pushing back. We didn't really have a chance."
It helped to hear that. As Canderous turned and walked back into the garage, shouting something in Mando’a at one of the wandering gizka, Revan thought he might be that much more prepared for Korriban.
And when Jolee approached with Carth, asking if he was ready to go, he nodded.
