Being Crafty

Cross-posted to novice_knitters.

I feel accomplished.

Within the past month, I finished two projects. One of them took me forever to finish, but I finally finished it and sent it on its way. The second was just completed earlier tonight and presented to my friend.

The projects and pictures (lots of them!) may be found under the cut.

Project #1: Prisoner of Azkaban-style Gryffindor Scarf

This scarf took me quite a while to make. Admittedly, I hadn't been working on it regularly, but going to the occasional organ/orchestral/etc. concert gave me an excuse to bring it along and knit away. The story behind the scarf: I made it for juno_magic . She had sent me a couple of lovely prints that she drew for her Advent 2008 calendar. My thought was to knit her a scarf, and to challenge myself, I chose a POA-style scarf. Not knowing what House she considered herself a part of, I started it in Slytherin colours. Then along came the OWL House Cup, and she said she Sorted into Gryffindor. So come June, I started over again, this time with wool in Gryffindor colours.

Here is the finished product:

Project #2: Crocheted Afghan

My friend, David, told me his mum had crocheted him an afghan in the most hideous colour combination (orange/blue-green). He didn't have the afghan anymore, and I thought it would be a good project for me to work on. I had him sketch the design, and I decided making 21 squares that were 12" square would work well. He picked out the colours he desired, and I settled in to work.

After having sewn the squares together, added a single-crochet border and a 3" fringe, the afghan was complete. David was very moved by the final product. I even produced a card with a prayer that was modified from a Prayer Shawl prayer, which he very deeply appreciated.

Here is the finished product, including one in which David curled up underneath it.

Please let me know what you think of these.
