Suggestion/Discussion for FF7 Fic (possible cross-over with either FF8 or KH)

Warnings: POSSIBLE yaoi. Most likely lots of action, blood, guts and gore maybe, seriousness.

Mkay, I haven't written fanfiction before (except for some lame attempt years ago). I've read PLENTY of it, however. And I've been having this tiny idea pop in my head for awhile now, simmering around restlessly. I'm still not sure if I want to do it, but I'm working my way there. I need suggestions to get me going, though.
Like I said, it's a tiny idea. As in minute, and I only have vague ideas of what I want. I'm thinking FF7 universe, say.. 500 years after Advent Children/game. Naturally, the majority of characters have died off. Tifa, Yuffie, Cid, Barrett, even Marlene and Denzel. All of the human characters lived their lives out peacefully and happily, dying good 'ol non-traumatizing deaths. Well-earned, too.
Instead, we have Nanaki still around (older and gray, of course). A couple of cubs, too. Just like the scene at the end of the game and beginning of AC. Vincent is still around, given a long life due to Hojo. And Cloud, also. Bear with me here.
The idea started after reading a story somewhere, I can't remember which one for the life of me but it was very nifty but it occurred to me.. How awesome and awe-inspiring would it be for Cloud to be a summon? Mhm, you read that right. Please, continue to bear with me. It would be a choice he made. After living for so many years without friends, say, 300 after end of game and AC, he's given the choice and takes it. As a summon, he pretty much 'sleeps' or 'lifestreams' or whatever it is Summons will do in their off-time (I haven't decided yet), and when summoned he'll keep all consciousness and memories he had before. His state of mind is that of an experienced warrior, selfless and wise in war. Not really emo or angsty, though perhaps touches of regret here and there for his lost friends.
Vincent is still around, also. I'm not sure where or how, but he is. And as I said before, old Nanaki.
Now here's my brick wall. I don't know what the story will be -about-. I at first thought maybe I'd make an original character to center the story around, but I don't know how well that will mesh after the canon characters make themselves known. But then I had an idea, what if I did a crossover? With either FF8 or KH, I'm not sure yet. If FF8 maybe sometime during the Time Compression, Squall gets tossed around (and possibly other FF8 characters) to appear in FF7-land. They fight evil, enter FF7 characters, all of them fight evil, epic saga continues. If that happened, however, I might do a sort of mix between FF7 summons and FF8 GF's.
Then if it's a KH crossover, maybe just as Squall's world is destroyed, instead of landing in Traverse town or Hollow Bastion or whatever (I'm not too terribly knowing with KH story), he lands in FF7 world and -again-, maybe a few of friends survive to be discovered later. Maybe even reincarnated versions of them in FF7 world? Hmm.
Either way, if it's a FF8 or KH crossover, Squall would be the main cross-over character. The story itself would mostly either center around him OR the OC I could make instead of doing a cross-over. Eventually great evil threatens and the main character gets Cloud and Vincent and possibly old Nanaki (or his offspring) to aid in defeating so said evil.
Problem is, I don't know what so-said evil would be. I had an idea today, and I think it might be doable. Jenova was an alien-species, but what if she's not the only one, right? What if another one of her kind finds the FF7-world, perhaps searching for Jenova (maybe a long-lost sister or something of the sort) and discovers what happened? Or even if not, still lands to inspect and discover and eventually what Jenova did to the Cetra, this new calamity tries to do to humanity. See?
That's all I have, really. I guess it's a little more than I thought, but I'm having a hard time coming to decisions when it comes to the characters and their roles, as well as tying everything together. If I did this, it would be a multi-chapter fiction bordering on epic proportions. I know this because I wouldn't dare let it be anything less. I have absolutely NO idea as to relationships in the story, and although I enjoy reading yaoi immensely I have no idea if I could ever write it, though that's not to cancel out the option completely. There will be probably be minor involvement from OC's if I don't make an OC the starting character. I'm not sure yet.
So.. Yea. What do ya'll think? I'd like some input, suggestions, discussion, anything really. Advice, you name it. If this idea's already been done, please point me in the right direction?
