So this is a set of videos about this new electronic instrument, the eigenharp alpha. Check out video 1 for a technical discussion, and video 3 for a performance.

I'm not too thrilled about this instrument, and not because it's electronic. In fact, I'm actually kind of ridiculously excited about that wind pipe control bit, because I think it gives much finer wave envelope control than any other sort of controller we have.

But the thing is, the instrument isn't really anything new. As far as I know, everything this thing can do we already have keyboards and pedals and other things that can do the same thing. Maybe it's the fact that it's all put into one small, rather portable package, but after all, you still only have so many fingers, and you'll still need a couple of people to make use of the full polyinstrumental effects.

And lastly, you're still limited by the creativity of the performer, and as with all electronic instruments, the quality of the speakers. The latter is expensive but achievable. The former? Mm.
