[Background]
here [Personality] Black☆Star has a personality that is much larger than his physical body, and thus exudes in every essence of his being. It would be an understatement to call him arrogant or self-centered when his very soul is the epitome of both-with a big helping of confidence to boot. Many people cannot put up with how he presents himself-claiming to be on a path to surpass God, and that he is already "bigger" than everyone around him. Even in the face of people stronger than he is, he will point out how inadequate they are to him.
Enemies are not the only people who hear these words. Black☆Star won't hesitate to call his friends and teammates weak right to their faces, an example of this being when he tells Maka that she doesn't compare to him and is weaker when Stein gives him the specialized jar to work into his wavelength training. He often tells Maka that she is weaker than he is, and even more serious than that, threatened to kill her when she insisted on fighting Chrona underneath Shibusen, when the fight was supposed to be his. This hostility towards his own friends makes it easy for him to get into fights with them. However, he usually feels guilty about his behavior after the fact (not that he'll ever admit it), and either will send Tsubaki to do the apologizing for him, or will play it off as if the situation never happened and that things are just as they were before the fight.
Despite his arrogance and the usually unfair treatment of those people close to him, Black☆Star is a fiercely loyal person. Once one's respect is won in his eyes, he will do whatever he can for that person whenever they are in need. A great example of this is when Tsubaki went into the Uncanny Sword to confront her brother's soul. The entire time that she was immobile, Black☆Star sat by her-preventing any of the villagers from disturbing her and-determined to stay throughout the ordeal, even as he was savagely attacked by the angry people around him. He ignored the pain and eagerly cheered his partner on.
Though his confident persona has often gotten him into trouble or put off the people around him, it is the main reason why Black☆Star is able to become stronger much faster than the other students at Shibusen. His optimism and 'starness' keep him always focusing on moving forward, with failure not being an option. He exerts more than 100% at whatever he does, and doesn't give up until he is physically unable to go any further. However, once he is able to get back up, he will continue trying to meet his goals. This type of personality helps him out in the long-run, but in regards to less important things (such as passing a test by trying to steal the answers, for example), it usually just annoys the people around him or gets him into trouble, seeing as he often goes against others' wishes and authority just because he thinks the outcome is worth it.
The most serious flaw (though also a strong point at times) in his personality is his preoccupation with power. Though this drive has motivated him to save friends and become stronger, it also often brings him close to the brink of “madness.” Whenever this happens, his usually clear green eyes have a single star appear in them both, and reason is usually lost (even when his friends try to talk sense into him), though he has never fully succumbed to the madness (since he has decided to follow his own path and not go down the path of the demon that other people seeking power fall to). Black☆Star often boasts that he can’t be affected by the madness exuded by magic, but there have been a few times where he has succumbed to it-the Kinshin’s madness infecting him under Shibusen, and the madness of one of the Old Rulers affecting him (and Death the Kid) inside the book of Eibon (basically proving that Black☆Star is not totally immune to it, no matter how many times he says he lacks the “sixth sense” to be affected my it).
Although the power of madness has enabled him to fight more dangerous foes and become stronger when it has overtaken him, the last thing he wants is to tap into that power permanently. More than “surpassing god,” he wishes to always be there to protect his friends and be there when they need him-something that has changed in him since the beginning of the manga where his ambitions were a lot more self-centered, though he is still pretty self-centered and childish at times (a lot of times).
After all, he's only fifteen-he still has a lot of maturing to do.
[Abilities]
Here are a few of them. Related to Somarium, however, seeing as Black☆Star is considered the strongest student at Shibusen next to Kid (who even thinks Black☆Star is stronger than him), there will be a slight cap on his strength. If a Tsubaki shows up in Somarium, then he’ll be able to use his various sword attacks with a slight cap on their strength as well. Without Tsubaki, he’ll just be a very skilled swordsman if he can find such a weapon.
In regards to his ability to tap into his madness wavelength, I’ll only use this if there’s an event which makes those susceptible to madness/evil energy become affected, or if there’s an event that makes one’s “true” side come out. However, when Black☆Star becomes enraged or heavily provoked, he often slips slightly into this wavelength, which basically just makes him seem extremely unreasonable and almost violent towards his friends (like when he’s often threatened to kill Kid or Maka when they’ve “gotten in his way”). I will be keeping this part of his personality, because it makes him a more dynamic character and is one of the flaws that keep him well-rounded.
[Other important stuff] he makes dick jokes. it's very unfortunate. forever the mind of a middle schooler
[Sample post]
[First Person]↳ ❶ If someone provoked or attacked you, what would you do? Uh, kick their ass? Isn’t that kinda obvious? Hesitate and you’re out of luck-if it’s a mistake? Just apologize or whatever for it later. No big deal.
↳ ❷ Do you stand up against authority, go against all odds, and if you could, pierce the heavens with your fighting spirit? If not, would you if you could? Jeez, can you stick to a question at a time? I go my own way-there’s not a term you can attach it to. I mean, I guess people would say that I go against authority, but it’s not like I set out to do that, you know? And about that heaven thing-yeah, my fighting spirit surpasses God’s. If it didn’t pierce the heavens, that’d be really lame, don’cha think?
↳ ❸ You're asked to take someone out for a date. Do you agree? If so, describe what you would do. If not, tell why. If she’s a flat, kinda annoying girl like Maka, then no fucking way. Guys want girls with tits, am I right? And I’m not being shallow-it’s true! Just ask Soul. Hell, Kid’ll probably agree with me!
↳ ❹ If you were to describe yourself in one sentence, what would that be? I’m one fucking big guy.
↳ ❺ You are a given a mission. Would you complete it effectively or would you goof off and do something else? Expand a little on the response. Depends on the mission. If it’s something like “help this little old granny across the street,” then I might blow it off for a few seconds [ seconds to him = minutes for poor gram grams ] to get some extra training in or get some food. I mean, the granny will understand, right? If I’m not all buffed up or well-fed, then I can’t help her dodge crazy wagons or whatever! But if the mission’s really serious, then I actually jump into action ahead of time. I don’t like giving other punks like Kid or Soul the time to upstage me-that would kill my reputation!
↳ ❻ Can you surpass God? Does a chicken have feathers? Jeez, what a dumbass question. I seriously hope that was a joke. I’m the only one who can surpass God, and don’t you forget it!
↳ ❼ Also, your thoughts on symmetry? If Kid points out my hair being “off” one more time, I swear to God he’s a dead man! That shitty symmetry stuff is really starting to piss me off. I mean, yeah, it’s still pretty funny watching him cry over paintings and stuff, but come on! Start getting worked up about how I look and then we got a problem.
[Third Person]- Someone is being mugged! With complete control over NPC actions, write a sample that illustrates: 1) how or what the character is thinking before the event happens, 2) how they react and deal with the situation, and 3) if necessary, how they handle the aftermath. This will allow both a change to show your character both in a normal situation and a forced situation.
The only flaw Black☆Star has been able to find with Somarium in the week or so that he’s been around has only been one thing: the lack of action. Floating mountains and other “supernatural” things aren’t new to this kid, so the interest there that a lot of people probably would have does not exist. Thankfully, the food is pretty decent-but even a whole buffet of food just to himself hasn’t been able to get rid of the gnawing feeling of boredom that makes the assassin feel restless every single day.
Sure, there’s training-and thank God for that. But even after going at it for hours-practicing kicks and punches and combos until he’s nearly drowning in his own sweat-training doesn’t replace the exhilarating feeling that actual fighting gives him. The sensation of his fist colliding with undeserving flesh-the resistance of Tsubaki’s blade slashing against an enemy-how his heart beats wildly in his chest as he gives his all and plunges head-first into dangerous situations-
“ARGH, I CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE!”
The blue-haired ninja ceased his walking-ignoring the frightened stares of the people around him. Villagers didn’t usually yell out random things while hanging around in the shopping district, but Black☆Star couldn’t be bothered with caring about something like that right now. He felt as if he were going insane-his whole body aching to do something more than just walk and merely exist. Where was the action? The drama? Yes, he should be happy that no malicious plans were being carried out, but still! Couldn’t something happen?
And-just as if his silent prayers had been heard by God-a distressed yell carried out down the street near a café of some sort. Without even pausing to think, Black☆Star was off-charging down the cause of the problem-a mugger-at a higher speed than a normal human being possess.
The perks of being such a big guy (though he would be a liar if he didn’t admit that he was moving a little slower than he usually did back at home).
“Heads up, asshole!” he shouted as he jumped into the air-pouncing on the criminal with a nearly-wild grin on his face. He almost forgot that the man beneath him was just a normal person, and it wasn’t until he was a second away from pummeling the jerk’s face once he turned him over that Black☆Star realized-due to the man’s trembling-that he couldn’t beat the shit out of him like he wanted to.
Really, really wanted to.
“P-Please, don’t hurt me!” came the ever-familiar plea-one that Black☆Star hated to hear because it meant that he was dealing with a really pathetic weakling. It disgusted him, honestly, that someone could go from being a criminal to a sniveling pansy within just a few moments. It really made him sick.
He shoved the man away harshly and picked up the bag that had been stolen, slinging it over his shoulder as he glared down at the shaking villager. “Just get lost, you piece of shit-you don’t even come close to deserving punishment from me.” Pure resentment dripped off of his words, and he didn’t even bother to watch the man run off-having turned the other way to head back to where the owner of the bag still sat at her café table.
He was thanked when the bag left his possession and returned to the woman’s-no surprise there-but Black☆Star couldn’t feel proud of what he had just done. Such a low-rate heroic deed would never satisfy a guy like him-and even though he wasn’t boasting about surpassing God as much anymore, it was still his goal, and catching thieves wasn’t helping him get any closer to it.
Somarium… talk about a growth-stunt.
Within moments, however, Black☆Star’s “down” mood dissipated-the smell of something tasty wafting underneath his nostrils. His stomach gave out comedic growl, and he didn’t bother asking before reaching out to take a half of the woman’s sandwich-her motion to stop him going unnoticed.
“Really, it was nuffin’, lady!” he said cheerfully-his mouth full of food, which leaked out in little crumbs with every spoken word-much to the woman’s dismay. “No need f’r thanks-” -chew, chew, swallow- “-I needed the exercise, anyways. Y’know, can’t be getting fat just ‘cause I’m in this vacation-land or whatever. You probably could use some exercise too-it’d fix your flabby arms!”
A slap and a few unkind words later, and "melodramatic women" moved to the top of Black☆Star’s “Why Somarium Sucks” list. If he didn't have to meet any other unappreciative ladies, then he could maybe learn to deal with not being surrounded by dangerous entertainment 24/7-for a little while, at least.
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] the cast - definitely having a nice soul eater cast is one of the biggest reasons why I want to play my character here.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] be active - because it offers three ways to show that one is active. a lot of other games require either one or two ways, so I’m definitely happy about this.
[Where did you hear about Somarium?] death the kid-mun’s post in d_m haha.
[Any questions?] nah
