I woke up cold this morning. The air conditioner was off, but my window was open (with a little screen) and I woke up wrapped into my comforter, instead of how I have been waking up with it pushed to one side while I woke up drenched in sweat. It was like the weather's fever broke.
It was a taste of fall. Hard to believe it is August 20th and fall is coming FAST. Where the HELL did this month go?
I went out to my car and the morning had that crisp fall feeling that I love. My car had cold condensation on the roof and windows, I had to turn on my rear window defroster to get rid of it.
In another month, maybe less, my window unit will be taken out of the window, cleaned and dusted and put away until the sweltering weather starts next year. In a few months my gas bill will start to climb as my electric bill goes down. I'll have to start scraping frost off of my car windows in the morning.
I will say that I am looking foward to seeing the foliage. new Hampshire foliage is like fireworks, leaves of such brilliant color they sometimes seem unreal. I love it when the wind blows and the trees jump, shaking their limbs, dancing the leaves. Amazing.
This will be my 3rd winter in New Hampshire, though my first was just the tail end of one. I did not get the full bite until last winter. Sometimes it seems crazy that I am voluntarily living where the temperature regularly goes down to the teens for weeks on end, where kicking at ice caked on a porch can break a toe (ow), but I do.
New England is my home now, good and bad, warts, humidity, June Bugs, ice and all.
