Fandom Snowflake Challenge: Day 6

Rec at least 3 fanworks you thought you wouldn't like (because they weren't your fandom or they pushed against your boundaries or you thought you just wouldn't be interested) and that you ended up loving.
I tend to avoid things that I think I won't like. That's only sensible right? And I barely have time to read the stuff I'm pretty sure of. But sometimes I get pushed off my beaten path and am happily surprised. I'm lazy and so there's only two Bandom recs here, and the first one is something I just read:

Waycest fics kinda creep me out, but it's Aka so I gave it a go. I LOVE the way Mikey's new life is gradually built up, from lonely and depressing to pretty comfortable. But always in the back of his mind is the gaping hole of missing Gee =( And happy ending FTW!
The other one that surprised me I already recced on crack-van a couple of months ago - "Away with the Boys in the Band" by InLoveWithNight (here: http://crack-van.livejournal.com/5269487.html).
Author Rating/Warnings: NC-17. Self-harm, attempted suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, misogyny (internalized and otherwise), extensive depiction of mental illness. All of the above is in-text, not offscreen, and therefore possibly triggery.
It's a retelling of MCR's history but with girl!Mikey. Generally my eyes skip straight past genderswap (always-a-girl) fics, but so many people recced it they swayed me. AND IT WAS GOOD! Great, in fact. Go read it now http://archiveofourown.org/works/209875
