The phone rings at 8:10 AM -- normally I would be asleep...
Sorority Lady (sounded about 25 years-old): Is this the Albany Civic Theater?
Me: Yes, Sort of -- I am the Box Office Manager.
Sorority Lady: I am calling from (some Sorority I don't recall) Alumni and I am checking on our tickets for tonight.
Me: You will need to call the outlet you reserved your tickets with and talk to them.
Sorority Lady: No, I reserved our tickets with ACT.
Me: I didn't make any sales for any Sorority. How many tickets did you reserve?
Sorority Lady: We need 20 tickets for tonight performance of Hello, Dolly. I called you back in November for information.
Me: I don't do group sales for under 40 tickets. Did you make any other contact since November?
Sorority Lady: No. You told me --
She proceeded to read from a list of notes she took from our conversation. Which included information on how to reserve the 20 tickets, numbers for the outlets, how our Will Call system works AND the date tickets went on sale. What SHE failed to do is to actually call the outlets and reserve the tickets herself.
Me: Exactly. Tickets went on sale and you were to call the numbers I gave you and reserve the ones you wanted for Will Call.
Sorority Lady: No! YOU were suppose to do that!
Me: No, I don't do group sales of under 40 tickets, and ALL group sales must be paid for in advance. You said you were using the Will Call system, so the sale would not have been through me.
Sorority Lady: (Getting even MORE rude) NO! I have 20 ladies showing up tonight and I want the 3rd & 4th rows!
Me: (Getting VERY firm with the lady) Look, I gave you all the information you needed -- YOU failed to call and reserve your tickets. All our performances are SOLD OUT. You can't honestly expect to call 4 months ago, never do ANY follow-up calls and then expect your tickets to magically appear. Your notes clearly show the date the tickets went on sale and how to order them. It's not MY job to reserve YOUR tickets.
Sorority Lady: Well what am I suppose to do?!
Me: That's not my problem. Feel free to call the outlets, but when I called them last week they were sold-out for tonight. (I know because *I* tried to get tickets for tonight -- I managed to snag a whole row for next Thursday.)
Sorority Lady: But I told 20 ladies to show up!
Me: I guess you better start calling them and canceling those plans.
Sorority Lady: (Mutters something about "hired help" and other entitlement crap.)
Me: **Hangs Up**
*Sigh*
I guess I should probably contact Johanna and let her know since she's working the Box tonight...
I was just about to post and the lady called me back again! Trying to tell me how to do my job! She's all pissy because she screwed up.
Me: I gave you all the information. It is YOUR responsibility to reserve your tickets at the outlets when they go on sale.
Sorority Lady: Well, you didn't make that clear to me. I made a call to you back in November to reserve my tickets and that's all that should be needed.
Me: I gave you the date tickets went on sale and all the information on what to do. YOU did not follow through.
Sorority Lady: I hope you make it more clear to people in the future.
Me: And in the future I would hope you would make at least ONE follow-up call to make sure you fully understand how something works.
What part of "I don't do group sales of 20 tickets" and "call the outlets when tickets go on sale and do a will call" isn't clear?!
GESH!
