Jackson County libraries are closed, officially and indefinitely. The largest library closure in the history of our nation. Fifteen libraries, almost all of them remodeled or rebuilt entirely in the last seven years. This pains me.
They're trying to get emergency federal funding now that the libraries are closed, but
Bush is threatening to veto it because it's part of an appropriations bill that sets a timetable for Iraq.
If you're from the Jackson County area, vote yes on the special election next month for emergency funds for the libraries. By law we need 50% voter turnout as well as a majority of the votes, so cut the apathy. The campaign is online here:
