Hello, 2011

Happy New Year to everyone! I don't think I realized that 2010 was such a crappy year for a lot of people, in that I didn't expect to see so many so happy to see it go. I had a pretty decent year, especially with that whole getting married thing, so I must have been living in a happy oblivion for much of it, and I realize I have a lot to be thankful for. But here's hoping that 2011 is better for everybody. Because it can't hurt to hope for that.

As in the previous 2 years, because I'm a dork, I'm going to post my iTunes top 25 most played list. I might post my reading list from 2010 later, but it is depressingly short, so I'm not sure I want to embarrass myself by showing how little I actually read. That is definitely one of my resolutions this year, to read (and write) a LOT more. And not waste so much of my life on the computer, which has so far been a bust. I recently discovered sporcle.com, which has been my downfall. I try to convince myself that since the quizzes are "mentally stimulating" I'm not completely wasting my time, but who am I kidding? Anyway, music (with added commentary this year):

iTunes Top 25 Most Played List
Two Sides - The Carpenters - Third year at number one. This isn't even my favorite Carpenters song ("I Need to Be in Love" holds that title), but there's something about this one that makes me occasionally put it on repeat, hence why it's still number one.
Stolen - Dashboard Confessional - I love the scene in Scrubs when they play this, when Elliot gets engaged...even if they end up breaking up later. I almost convinced Andy that this should be our song for our first dance at our reception because I love it that much.
Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton - How can you not love this song? Guy loves girl, they go to party, guy gets drunk, girl has to put his sorry ass to bed. Story of my life. Haha, not really, but it does remind me of times I've had to take care of drunken Andy :) And when you picture Jesus, don't you think of Clapton? :P
I Got You Babe - Sonny and Cher - "Our song," and the song we ultimately chose for our first dance, which was definitely the best choice for us.
Baby Monkey (Going Backwards on a Pig) - Parry Gripp - Okay, this song? Has taken over my brain! It is impossible to get out of your head once you start thinking about it. It was a free download on iTunes a while back, and now I sing it all.the.freaking.time. If you haven't heard it, I'm including the YouTube video in this post. WATCH IT!
Superman - The Blanks - Scrubs theme as sung by "Ted's band." Love it.
The Ballad of Jimmy Durante - The Blanks - This is so catchy, and I think it might be my fave Blanks' tune.
Somebody - Bonnie McKee - Still love her, even though she seems to have vanished from the music scene, despite promises of a second album.
Moondance - Michael Bublé - My favorite song that we performed when I did Vocal Jazz at UW-FDL. I wish I had a recording of our performance, because I think it was awesome, and it was just so fun to sing :D
Forever Young - Youth Group - From one of the O.C. soundtracks. I think Marissa and Ryan dance to this song? Anyway, it makes me want to slow dance.
Young Friend - Brooke Waggoner - Another free iTunes download that I really love a lot.
The Bank and Trust - The Elected - OMG, BLAKE! I love the first line from this song, "Well she gets real mean when she's drunk, and she finally fell asleep and I'm glad..." and have been known to sing it while drinking, heh.
Follow Through - Gavin DeGraw - My favorite Gavin DeGraw tune. I remember discovering this when I used to watch music videos on Yahoo all the time. Back when I seemed to dedicate a lot of time to discovering new music...I kind of miss those days sometimes.
Stumbling Through the Dark - The Jayhawks - I did discover a lot of music from The O.C., including the Jayhawks...one of their songs plays in one of my favorite episodes, "Rainy Day Women." And all this reminiscing about The O.C. makes me want to watch the series again, which I haven't done in quite a while.
My Stupid Mouth - John Mayer - This makes me think of Andy, who has a tendency to say stupid things :D
The Absence of God - Rilo Kiley - I just love this song.
More Adventurous - Rilo Kiley - And this one. The one time I got to see them in concert, I almost cried when they played this one, as I love it so much.
Something Pretty - Patrick Park - I actually haven't listened to this song in over a year, so I'm surprised it's still on the list. It's yet another O.C. soundtrack find, but I think I made myself sick of it, because I just have no desire to listen to it anymore, when I used to love it a lot.
I Never - Rilo Kiley - I just like to sing along to this one. I feel like a big ol' country star or something :D
Potential Breakup Song - Aly & AJ - It's catchy and I like to play it to teasingly remind Andy that one year he forgot my birthday. My stupid birthday!
I'll Be Seeing You - The Blanks - This song makes me think of my Grandpa. In junior high, this was a song in the concert we did when I was in 8th grade, a '40s musical revue, complete with '40s attire. My Grandma couldn't make it, so we brought the tape over to her and watched it with her, and she started crying because she remembered listening to these songs with my Grandpa. (He had died just before I started 7th grade) This is a beautiful a capella version of an awesome song.
Blue Eyes - Cary Brothers - Off of the awesome Garden State soundtrack. I should watch that again. It's been a long time.
Leaving Town - Dexter Freebish - I don't actually remember how I came across this song, but I really love it.
Cowboy Take Me Away - Dixie Chicks - Another song I don't listen to much anymore, but used to play a lot, so it easily crept onto the list this year.
Keep It Together - Guster - I'm pretty sure this song was also featured on The O.C., but I'm not sure. I just know I love it and Guster, and this is my favorite Guster tune.

Songs that dropped off the list this year: Jack Killed Mom - Jenny Lewis, Mary's Song (Oh My My My) - Taylor Swift, Worn Me Down - Rachael Yamagata, For All We Know - The Carpenters, I Will Follow You Into the Dark - Death Cab for Cutie, Must Have Done Something Right - Relient K, and Breathe (2 AM) - Anna Nalick.

And, as promised, BABY MONKEY!
