Sometimes we get carried away
So, my first foray into videogame blogging hasn't been to succesful. Wow, imagine that.
There are quite a few problems with my article, which is currently hanging out on the Dtoid WordPress. I'd really like some feedback from Niero (head honcho) about it, but he's probably too inundated to deal with an inexperienced writer like me. My pride's a little hurt, but maybe I'll get the swing of things. I'm just not in the video game loop enough to really write about it.
Anyway, back to what's wrong with the article:
(1) The game in question. Madden blows. Who cares about when it's going to be released?
(2) Besides, even among people who care about Madden, the story isn't sensational at all. Video games are released every week. I really need to play up the angle more about why this particular release is out of the ordinary.
(3) I think this is it's biggest problem - it reads like a newspaper story. Destructoid's whole point is to be creative, witty, irreverant, and provide a new point of view for gamers that are disenchanted with run of the mill videogame bloggery. And my story is very cardboardy. Lame.
(4) It's not very visually appealing. I have only a rudimentary knowledge of HTML and can't Photoshop to save my life. No neato graphics, not a smooth layout. It's just blah.
I think I'll work on it some more and give it another shot, especially since the release has since been confirmed. Here's the kicker - the info won't be released to AP until a few days before the release, so the 19th or so. That means I have over a week's headstart. Maybe that will help push it through.
What I really need is a word from somebody who knows what the fuck they're doing. Some guidance, if you will, especially on the graphics front - I think I can rewrite it well enough. Buttt... I don't want to beg and plead like a bitch via PM or e-mail. That's what LiveJournal is for.
