Indispensable

If I had to recommend one thing to do before you die, it would be to walk out to Green's View at 1 in the morning. The walk down there is spooky as hell, especially with the abundant rumors of crazy methheads that life in the woods around Sewanee. Then... there are the fireflies. They're pretty creepy and add to the surreal atmosphere until you recognize what they are. Then they're just pretty.

The fireflies increase in density as you approach Green's View until the road curves and all of a sudden you're looking out of the Valley. There are woods all around you, full of fireflies every where you look, and a huge drop off and the cities in the Valley under you. The transition from white, firefly lights to yellow/orange city lights and star light very surrealistic. Everywhere you look are these little lights representative of what you're looking at - natural lights in the woods, man-made in the city, and stars in the sky. Very poetic, I suppose.

The strangest thing is being able to see the cars on the road. I think it's so strange that we're able to glimpse into a little piece of that person's life without their being aware of it. Where was he going at 2 in the morning? What's going in that guy's life that's forcing him to get to wherever he's going? He doesn't even know that we're on top of a mountain looking at him and discussing it.

Heady.

Oh, and then I got back to the room this morning, and Career Services had left me a message. I'm getting money for my internship. A lot.

Fuck yeah.
