Ah! The infamous Gem of Amara. What an excellent plot device. And don't you just love the irony of Spike being the recipient instead of Angel. Then again, Spike is more trustworthy and that's WITHOUT a soul.

I always thought Angel was really dumb not to at least keep the ring somewhere safe so he could use it against - oh, I don't know, maybe the Beast, or the Circle of the Black Thorn, or someone. But no, the big doofus had to go and smash it. Spike has more sense.

wow i like the fact that spike is seen as more worthy to have the gem with or with a soul and i like the fact that it put Giles and buffy in there places she always so thinking angel is such a good guy because of the soul and she seen as bitch to spike i like her put down a peg or two i also like the respect the demon community shows spike they value him in all ways and you also show that xander is in love and like with spike in front of everyone so please keep up the good work need more chapters soon thanks deedsday1@gmail.com

Spike is a known quantity, and has always been pretty consistent in this !verse, keeping a lid on the town, etc. Whereas Angel went off to LA and started behaving like a nut job about half the time WITH the soul. (I always thought everyone let him off too easily for locking all those lawyers in with Dru and Darla).

the gem is just emerging now - and it could make the difference.
It's cool that the peaceful demon community trusts Spike enough to give it to him.

In canon, Spike found out about the Gem when he was out of town and only came back to Sunnydale to look for it. Here, where he never left town, I'd figured he wouldn't have learned the Gem's location. Fortunately, the locals knew all about it. *G*

Thanks! It really felt like the relationships among everyone had developed to the point where everyone would accept Spike, the soulless Master Vampire, with something that powerful. *g*
