Nothing like a spot of interrogation to give you the scoop on the new threat in town. They're not quite sure what to make of it yet, but they've got an early heads up now.
Like Spike, my heart aches for Xander having to accept the need to kill for the greater good. He may live with a vampire, but the boy has his own peculiar moral code and this is way outside his comfort zone.
I'm with Spike on Xander being careful. He's definitely on Glory's radar and why do I think you're going to have fun with that! *g*
Oh maaan, it does my heart good to see Glory stymied.
I thought they were acting like chickens with their heads cut off on the show.
I think I like this version much better.
And here's poor Xander where the rubber meets the road. He's learning that we all have to do unpleasant things in life sometimes, and we don't have to like it, or be easy about it, but it still has to be done.. Killing the demon was necessary.
That's Xander for you, getting to the heart of things - and killing snakes. In working on this chapter, I was really struck by the fact that, if Buffy had taken some backup, she would have had someone like Xander who could have taken Glory's toys away, then Glory wouldn't have come so near to finding out about Dawn. Fortunately, Buffy's much better about not lone-wolfing it here.
It is interesting that of all of them Xander, who could be seen as the weakest (physically/magically), managed to piss Glory off. His special talent, I guess.
Xander's quick thinking, again, focused the action. He made the connection between Giles and the sale and Glory and went to the mansion rather than The Magic Box, even remembering to warn Tara. I love how competent and quick witted he is in this story. It keeps him in the center of things rather than on the sidelines. It's no wonder Spike worries about him!
The torture was necessary, but I can understand Xander's discomfort with it and the murder. They're not actions to be taken lightly, and, although Spike doesn't care about the actions themselves, he tries to rein himself in for the sake of Xander's emotions. It makes their relationship work even though Spike still acts and thinks like a vampire. At least he takes Xander's reactions to heart.
Xander has really gotten good at knowing his own limits and focusing on the big picture - stopping the ritual was more important than stopping Glory and that's where he succeeded when canon-Buffy failed. Xander doesn't leave anyone behind, not his vampire and not poor Tara, all alone in the Magic Box.

Spike's right, Glory may not quite know who Xander is yet, but he sure pissed her off.
