A pleasure to read :) I've only actually watched season 7 and a few early episodes to catch up with some stories. But somehow I don't think it was that simple with Joyce. Anyway curious what you'll do next :) *enjoys her coffee and re-reads*
Sadly, it was not that simple with Joyce. Much as it was tempting to not have her get sick at all, I decided I had to stay true to the logic I've been using throughout this: canon events will happen, if the underlying reasons for them happening haven't changed. (ie, since Buffy wasn't killed by the Master, Kendra and Faith weren't called). However, events often unfold differently than in canon because of the changes that have occured in this AU. *tries to look mysterious*
Nice! The Riley thing is very interesting, that might head some troubles off at the pass if Riley can get his head out of his ass. I love the reason he told Buffy about how he helped Joyce and Dawn. I also really like the building friendship between Spike and Buffy (as well as the way you continue to build the friendship between Xander and Buffy). I really like these chapters where the plot progresses and nothing overtly exiting happens, you write them very well.
Thanks! I'm really happy that you like the quiet chapters where nothing really happens. Since Spike already has the chip out and Harmony wasn't vamped, a lot of the early parts of Season 5 is unfolding differently. I actually understood Riley's fear of army doctors but his neediness with Buffy while she was going through the worst thing that ever happened to her drove me nuts.
Yep, Xander's got Spike wrapped around his finger. Spike likes to think he's in charge but mostly he's knows he's not really. They're so cute together.
Excellent use of Buffy and Riley's fragmenting relationship. I can just see taste his frustration at being ignored while Buffy ohs and ahs about her new training space.
Love Spike's logic for giving Buffy the heads up about Riley's heart. Nothing to do with being a nice vamp, but Dawn matters to him, so he's returning the favour. I suspect however that Spike knows damn fine that Riley won't be told. Tricksy vamp, but that's why we love him.
I never liked the way canon revealed Riley's heart problems - Dawn playing with a stethascope? Geez, she's not 8, she's way too old to act that babyish in front of a cute intern.
Riley really changed when he lost his Initiative mojo. It's like he was completely lost and tried to make up for it by clinging to Buffy. Dumb.

And I love Spike being all noble but yet refusing to admit it. Xander's robbing off on him.
