David Yates, you got it all wrong. I was very disappointed with the Half-Blood Prince. All the best scenes were botched... when the hell did the Burrow burn down?! Why is the Harry-Ginny kiss so LAME?! Why were Tonks and Lupin only in the movie for 3secs?! Why weren't the Gaunts in the movie?! What was with that stupid, emo Hermione scene?! I waited 9 months for this let-down. Uuuuggghh...
But on the other hand, I do applaud David Yates for what was otherwise a fantastic movie. It was well-done, cinematically (as expected) and the most hilarious one by far. The beginning, admittedly was GREAT! I was grinning a mile wide and was surprised/excited that they actually showed the bridge collapse. I would've liked to have seen the exchange between the Muggle Prime Minister and Cornelius Fudge though. But as soon as Harry appeared in the London subway being picked up by some silly cafe waitress, that smile faded.
The cave scene was fantastic! Almost exactly as I had envisioned it! But everything else after they got back to the castle was just horrible. Dumbledore's death was not as agonizing as it was portrayed in the book; there was no epic battle after Dumbledore's death; and why on EARTH was there not a funeral for him? One was filmed for Cedric Diggory, someone who only suddenly appeared in the series, but none for Dumbledore? Did they run out of money? Surely, Warner Bros, with your brilliant scheme to procure more money by releasing this movie in the summer, you've set aside enough to properly finish the film? What a great insult to Albus Dumbeldore!
Yates did such a great job with Order of the Phoenix! I expected so much better! Please, please, please, make Deathly Hallows good (both of them) and do the book justice!
So now, my personal rankings for the movies stand as:
1. Order of the Phoenix
2. Prisoner of Azkaban
3. Goblet of Fire
4. Sorcerer's Stone
5. Half-Blood Prince
6. Chamber of Secrets
And as for the books (why not):
1. Deathly Hallows
2. Half-Blood Prince
3. Goblet of Fire
4. Prisoner of Azkaban
5. Sorcerer's Stone
6. Chamber of Secrets
7. Order of the Phoenix
I could rant more, but I got most of it out of my system on the 20min walk from the movie theater to the dorms. The little campers were disappointed too.
