What a grim subject...

So far this semester, I've been working on a project with 3 other people on making a public service announcement about human trafficking. I've known about the problem in Southeast Asia... but I thought it was only predominant there. While doing my initial research, I was SHOCKED to find out that it's worldwide, rampant even in the US! I found reports of human trafficking happening in places 5min from where I live in Northern Virginia (Ravensworth, for anyone that's curious). It is absolutely frightening... and appalling! Human trafficking happens within the US, in and out of US borders, and all over the world!!! I wish there is more advocacy and campaigning about it because it's so widespread! And it's hard to track down traffickers because it's such a secretive business. I watched a CBS interview about this girl who was lured into trafficking and was forced into prostitution. It turned out that the house she was being held captive in was only 4 BLOCKS away from her own house!!! How ridiculous is that?! And I think her family and police spent like a year searching for her!

I could keep writing about how profound this subject is, but that's too much reading for you all haha... I actually told myself to stop writing a long time ago and here I am, still typing away!

But erm, I've decided that if I were ever to be kidnapped and put into human trafficking, I'd want them to put me in street prostitution. That way, while I'm illegally prowling in the streets, a policeman can arrest me and then I can escape by telling them that I'm a victim of trafficking! And at the same time, save a few other girls who could be under the same trafficker as me.

Unfortunately, your life is unpredictable when you enter that world. So let's just hope it that never happens to me... or you!

Oh yea, watch the movie Taken (with Liam Neeson and Maggie Grace). It's a really good movie about human trafficking.
