Nyan Brain

I think my brain is going sour a little. I had a dream where I was creating an airline (part of some kind of TV show or contest or something--get a bunch of people and make them start airlines? It made no sense, but I was explaining my reasoning to these people with cameras that I assume were recording things so we could find out who the winner was later). It was called NyanCat Air. (Insert laugh track.) It wasn't just a proposal, either, I had to actually put together a prototype plane, its crew, and apparently do some schedules and actually have a test flight w/customers...

The airplane was probably ridiculously expensive. I know there was some kind of budget I was working with in the dream, but I can't recall at all what it was. Obviously, the tail had NyanCat on it. The seats were upholstered in dark blue fabric with stars and Nyan Cats on 'em, except for the exit row seats, which were upholstered in big, 3-inch thick, rainbow stripes. The whole plane was wired up kind of like a giant LAN or maybe a multi-headed entertainment system--it's a little fuzzy, and it doesn't make much sense, because my subconscious is crazy. The seats had those little screens built into the back, and there were some extra ports on the armrests (including a power outlet). Apparently, you could plug into the plane's game system kind of like it was a KVM switch and use your laptop's screen/keyboard/mouse to play the games available instead of borrowing a keyboard or (wired) controller, even though my wakeful self realizes that would probably be a really stupid idea. The logic was apparently that there were private servers on the plane for several games, and each seat could join in to any game. On the part when we were actually flying somewhere, I saw a lot of people playing SCII, some form of CS, and TF2, but I think I was playing Minecraft... o_0 I don't know. Honestly, the plane could have just had Wi-Fi and made laptop/smartphone people happy, but instead it was creating its own little flying tiny internet instead, and I don't know what the logic behind that was. And it was probably waaaay more expensive than made any sense, but you're never in your right mind when you're dreaming, you know? Also, one of the "music" stations was apparently set to repeat the NyanCat theme on infinite loop, presumably for the lulz.

My air stewards and air stewardesses were dressed like maids and butlers with (optional) cat ears, although during the flight I think most of them wore the cat ears. I'm pretty sure that's cruel and unusual employment. The little nametags were cute, though--NyanCat on top of 8-bit rainbow aviation wings with a brass bar underneath with the person's name in an 8-bit-esque font. I got one, too, on the flight, I guess because I was the designer, but I didn't have to wear a maid outfit. The stewards were dressed in basically medium grey coattail suits with dark blue vests, white shirts, and a random colored tie (chosen from one of the rainbow colors on NyanCat). And (optional) grey cat ears. Apparently they could take the coat portion off if it was too warm, which some of them opted to. The black shoes were apparently whatever the person wanted to wear as long as it was black. The stewardess outfits were reasonably modest (but still pretty cute) medium grey versions of the typical french maid uniform (there appeared to be an ankle-length skirt option which one of the stewardesses on the flight wore), and a bow or tie (stewardess' choice) in a random NyanCat rainbow color just like with the guys. And, of course, optional grey cat ears. It was actually not that frilly a costume, which I appreciated, but the short skirt option definitely had a little ruffled petticoat to puff out the skirt a bit which appeared to include shorts/pantaloons. So, you know, still a little bit frilly. I think they had the same "black shoe" requirement, but they appeared to be the choice of the particular stewardesses (one was wearing those black Converse boots). I should mention that apparently the pilots got to wear those Snoopy-style helmet w/goggles thing and leather (probably fake?) bomber jackets with a random NyanCat rainbow color scarf. This amused me to no end. Yay, pilot costume XD

The menu appeared to always feature an option for some flavor of vegan toaster pastry (probably Amy's), regardless of meal (all I remember is that someone asked if it was Pop-Tart branded, and the answer was a definite no... plus they were pretty flaky and nice. I had an apple cinnamon one on the flight). For breakfast there appeared to be a cereal option with either milk or soymilk, and a potatoes O'Brien or hashed brown type of option. Not sure if there was a bagel w/cream cheese option, although that seems really standard on planes, so I feel like it must have been there. Apparently no omelet & sausage option, but I suspect I still hold a grudge about my so-called "vegan" meal on the flight back from Japan being an omelet. Lunch unsurprisingly featured sandwiches and salads, although the salad actually had interesting greens (read: not iceberg lettuce, likely to have included arugula and spinach) and either blue cheese or gorgonzola. Apparently the walnuts and cheeses came in separate packets you could mix in on your own, presumably to cater to nut allergies and vegans, but my wakeful self thinks that sounds like a recipe for salad accidentally tossed everywhere in the attempt to mix it all :/ There was apparently a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on the menu, but it was something like apricot jelly. The dinner menu was pretty vague, but I seem to remember a fried rice of some kind on it, which my wakeful self thinks is a bad move on the easy mass reheatability front. It was odd. Apparently you had a choice on the little peanut packet things, too, since you could actually get a mixed nut packet (with brazil nuts <3), and I think the other packet was pretzels. There was apparently Pocky for purchase, and I seem to recall being offered honey badger tea...

There weren't first class seats, I don't think. I don't remember a first class section on the plane, although the front of the plane that is normally first class was divided off by a sliding door. It was apparently a "family" section or something for people with children under some default age (I feel like it was 5 years, but I can't quite recall). This is undoubtedly my psyche attempting to escape my inevitable placement a couple seats away from a wailing baby. Supposedly, if you had a kid under traveling with you, you weren't allowed to seat the kid in the non-family section, and at least one adult needed to be seated with the kid in the family section. But I'm all for less wailing children within earshot on flights. I think the seat spacing was probably akin to the "economy plus" spacing, because they certainly weren't luxuriously spaced out and couldn't lean all the way back or anything, but they were sufficient for what I put up with on flights. Wakeful self thinks that was probably a bad move--people like first class :/ Oh well. My imaginary business would probably have failed with these decisions, lol.

The test flight was largely uneventful, but instead of wailing babies, there were some bits of rage-quit-esque behavior from some of the folks playing games on the gaming systems, so... yeah :/ Nix the flying LAN next time, brain, because that one guy looked like he wanted to punch someone. Otherwise it was kind of routine, but cute. Also, it was randomly to Atlanta (perhaps the influence of watching The Walking Dead). The little map where they show you where you are on your flight had a NyanCat instead of an airplane, but was otherwise normal. There weren't in-flight movies, since you were generally picking your own from whatever collection was available for the flight, and the services were pretty much the same. I think we shot a commercial at some point with some really lame meme-related tagline, but I can't actually remember it (or perhaps don't want to remember it). I really hope we didn't charge for luggage and weigh people's carry-ons, but I don't remember that, either :/

Yup, something is wrong with me o_0 I'm sorry. I'm not even sure why I feel the need to post/record this. Eh...
