Goodnight Sweetheart Well it's Time to Go

May 16, 2005 22:00

This past weekend I snuck home so I could accomplish 2 things

1) Say goodbye to Amanda seeing that she's moving to Virginia soon and very soon
2) Go to see my old high school pops concert.

Being the clever guy that I am, I managed to knock 2 birds out with one stone as I took Amanda as my date to the pops concert.

It was the first time I had gone to an MHS Music department event since I was performing in my final pops concert in 2003.

The music was nothing special...all the groups were decent...the orchestra was the by far superior...I had never heard them play as well as they did that night...the concert band was good, the marshalairs were good (except for the sound sysetm) the jazz band was good...the only real clunker of the night was wind ensemble...they played rep that was much too difficult for them to handle.

However, I didn't go there fore the musical aspect. I was there for the social aspect. There were tons of people there that I hadn't seen in a long time...Brendan, Mullen, Joanne, Toad, Curtis, Fogg, Colleen, Shannyn, Carson, Jayda...and several others who I'm forgetting. (If you're reading this and I forgot you...I apologize)

All in all it was a fun night...and a good weekend. I can't wait to get home...where I can just drive to Brant Rock and sit on the seawall...watch the waves come rolling in, and not have to think about anything.

I should talk to Ms. R...I wonder if she'll let me compose and conduct a piece for Marshalairs in the spring concert next year...hmm...I suppose I should start reading poetry so I can find some texts to set to music.

One more final...and then I'm back to Marshvegas...back to the deli, back to being a camp counselor, back to practicing in a cool basement, back to composing on the beach

back to my sanity

of course I realize that once I've been home for a month, I'll be ready to come back...funny how life works like that.

And finally, if I don't see you again before you leave...good bye Amanda...from Governor Winslow all the way through the Paw Sox games and everything in between...you always have a place in my mind, my heart, and prayers...please come back and visit...or maybe I'll just have to take a road trip..

Hmm...I've never been to Virginia before...
