happy father's day and first day of summer! can't believe the days are already going to get shorter...
just got back from a 4-day camping trip in kananaskis, a yearly thing we do with another couple. last year they invited a ton of friends though and it turned into a very fun gong-show. the campsite we go to is in the middle of a off-road vehicle park, so dirt bikes and quads are started up at 8am everyday. no one wants to deal with that, so there is usually NO ONE at the campsite. we love it. last year though, people just started appearing around our campfire and it ended up being about 30-40 people singing songs like oh canada and being drunk... it was very fun.
this year was also lots of fun, but there were so many people! weird! we met some teachers that said they had weed but didn't, so everyone was mad. (i don't smoke it so don't care.) but i was very happy to realize that even as a teacher i can still have fun. then we went over the other way and were making fun of these very quiet people, kept asking them if they were christian and dubbed their campsite 'the church' because of the tarps they put up. but they were just high. they turned out to be a lot of fun, we played drinking games and hung out. one of them was a nurse.
next day (5pm or so), i FINALLY convinced my fiancé to play gin with me, after 4 years!!! so we were playing our third round when our friend rich goes "aww dammit." he had cut his hand with our axe while chopping wood. definitely a stiches kinda cut. everyone else was napping so we just left cuz he was bleeding a lot and didn't want to wake his gf to scare her... turns out the nearest medical clinic was back in calgary!!! so instead of driving home we just bought crazy glue and rubbing alcohol and ian put it back together in a parking lot. we got back around 7:30pm and just drank til the morning. around 2am the nurse at the other site finally agreed to give him stiches with the surgical equipment he had with him from his trip to bolivia. i videotaped it all! so exciting! unfortunately can't post it anywhere because he will lose his nursing licence instantly. but it was very exciting and funny, and he really did need stiches. he's going to a real doctor today. he insisted he get these campfire stiches by the way. he wanted a real man scar... lol. too bad he got it from trying to split a peice of wood while holding onto it...
the nurse was awesome too, he told us all kinds of behind-the-scenes stuff about working at the hospital.
i truly love camping. it sucks that it rained though. note to self: never leave your shoes outside.
